Yes Charles Schwab is FDIC... The Amex Charles Schwab platinum is fire too, they have a no annual fee version credit card too and both available to Schwab customers.

The checking acct is fdic insured. The cash in the brokerage acct should be as well but any securities you purchase are not.

The Fidelity Debit card is also a good option. No fees domestic or international. Only 1% for purchases made in foreign currencies. But we all use a credit/charge card for those transactions anyway.

I love the no international fees, I use it as my main personal spending card, but more than that I love their app/site and the ability to add all external accounts, even the least common ones, including all your credit cards, to give your personal value. All your assets and liabilities in one single app, the best! I only wish it had zelle.

On their website on the fine print it says you need atleast a minimum balance of $0.01 on the brokerage account to get the $100. But I haven't opened one so don't know how that works. On the disclosure notes on how to obtain the $100.

So I wanted to open a Charles Schwab checking account, and I'm really excited about their free ATM worldwide feature, the only thing though is that they do a hard credit pull, and I'm still in the process of building credit, I don't have any credit scores at the moment, but ordered my first secured card to start building credit slowly. If I apply for that Charles Schwab checking account + brokerage and they do a credit check while I have no credit, and I get approved (because they don't care probably?) would that affect the credit that I'm trying to build? for example would my first score be 680 instead of 700 for example because I had hard credit pulls before I even had a score? Or it shouldn't have any affect at all since it was before I had any credit line? Thanks a lot :)

I applied yesterday for the checking account, they pulled my credit today just my Equifax score, I was approved for the account my score is 649 vantage I have credit history not necessarily all good, my income is higher than average and I own a business that may go into their decision making process

In terms of not carrying a debit card in your wallet, I've added my Chase debit card to my google pay and I use my phone to access the ATMs. I assume you can do that with the schwab debit card too? So long as the ATM you want to use supports contactless, you don't need to keep your debit card in your wallet

A debit card used as a credit transaction has the same federal protections as a credit card. If you use the debit card with your PIN then you lose those protections. So, if your debit card is stolen most likely it will be used as a credit card since the thief most likely won't know your PIN, so you will be protected. I recommend never using it with your PIN except at an ATM.

I applied for their banking a few months ago, I heard from a friend that they decided to do free brokerage and banking. They did a hard pull on my credit after opening my account, then closed it. I'm afraid to re apply so right now I'm just sticking with Sofi. Though I'd gladly switch over to them seeing as how they have places I can walk into for customer service.

Schwab has a brokerage office here, not a bank. You have to sign up for the brokerage to get the checking account. Not familiar with brokerage services, basically I just want a checking account, what to do?
