Hey fam. Dick Gregory brought me to these videos and your channel. I'm real glad to have found it, just subscribed and will continue watching the stuff you have posted already. Great information, thank you so much! Coming up I had a lot of issues with both Blackness as a concept and my own identity in terms of Blackness. I went to "good schools" but it is only through grassroots stuff like this that I became aware of how necessary it is for all of us to decolonize our minds and take our education up for ourselves. Even in terms of well-established radical thinkers and their texts, the Isis Papers is one example...I would have never known about it if it hadn't been for channels like this putting in work to get real talk out there on the airwaves. I used to gobble up white supremacy culture via film and paper media and hated myself and had no fucking clue because none of the schools my parents busted their asses trying to pay for taught Our true history. They certainly didn't mention that I'd have to carefully decode media to stop it from driving me into a state of mental disparity and that these things are done to perpetuate a vast system of socio-political-economic hierarchies. So thanks again and don't quit- there are tons of people like me in the greater Black Community but out of areas like New York or Chicago or other places where we have some semblance of a physical presence and stronghold who are being educated and simultaneously recieving emotional support through channels like this! Peace & Abundance y'all!

Mr. Woods, I truly appreciate you for your time, insight, knowledge, and perspectives on Black cinema. I'm going to "Google" the lovely dark skin ladies you've mentioned and that movie. The late great Lena Horne sung in the Wiz, Believe in Yourself. All of these things can be realized when we " believe" in our abilities, talents, gifts, and brilliance. Thank you so much! God bless you!

+zheahra Hello. Bless you. Thank you so much for your kind words. Mike and I are happy to discover that many viewers are enjoying these lessons and our perspective on black representation in cinema. Something Eleanor Roosevelt said has always resonated with me: "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent" Yes, one must see herself as beautiful and worthy. Self-love is foundational to true happiness. Be well and safe. Always demand respect. A Perfect God does not make mistakes. Peace and Blessings!!!

Hotep Mike D. Real Black TV: I guess as we all may do from time to time, I ran across your interview here with Bro. Charles Woods while looking at the list of other videos regarding interviews, after checking out one on Coltrane or Miles. I had to do the proverbial double-take when I saw the caption over the still of your interview with Charles Woods aka the Professor. A slight surge of adrenaline coursed through me, and I looked closer while saying to myself and seeing this light-skinned cat, I didn't do any interview; what is this up here? As I went to click on to the interview, I said that couldn't be me because I don't wear baseball hats. Then checking you guys out full screen, it obviously wasn't some forgotten video of me as the musician I am that I didn't know was posted; however, I enjoyed you Brothers making the kind of contribution you all were doing to raise the scopes and consciousnesses of the family, et al. I am Bro. Charles Woods too, known by some as the professor as well, but this is informally though, because of Black consciousness and being a Renaissance Man primarily in the Arts as a consequence. I just wanted to share this with you, and I will be e-mailing Bro. Charles to share this anecdote with him as well. More Power to Y'all . . . .

Why is it these days you rarely see a black woman and man couples in films anymore? I noticed all you see is black men with white women or women that aren't black. Why is that? I think I know the answer but like to know your answer..

Why don't blacks come together not necessarily as a large collective but a couple of friends or two or three people, pull resources together and make something small. Use a black independent distributor, surely, there must be one and show in limited theatres. As you make more money you can begin to target larger markets. We need to stop looking to Hollywood and go the Shonda Rhimes orTyler Perry et al route!! The minute they start wanting to go huge, spoils everything.
@krystalharris12595 жыл бұрын
