In a way, Davie actually inspired Charles to run his KZbin channel. Charles was the "pro" in every davie504's fiver related videos (where Davie challenges random fiver bassists to make tough baselines), and he got the well deserved fame after Davie challenged him in a base battle. Good times.

Challenge: come up with a baseline you like that, with the same fingering in a "radically different" alternate tuning, is still musically pleasing. "Radically different" means at least two used strings are retuned by a different number of half steps.

Higher Ground, Red Hot Chili Peppers version 3. Hysteria by Muse 4. No clue 5. Smoke on the water? 6. No clue 7. Shake hands with beef by Primus? 8. no clue 9. no clue 10. Tell me baby by the chili peppers? (i definitely got this wrong) Well I definitely failed, but at least I got 2/10. Also guessed the right band for #2 but wrong song. Could be worse!

I absolutely enjoy the fun you, Davie, and now Danny have with each other. I’m 63 years old musician been playing since I was 13. Not a bass player (only really simplistic and poorly). You are an amazing musician and play like only some who has dedicated years can, Davie is well above average and hilariously entertaining, Sapporo is good, but has got to be one of the funniest people alive.

As a keyboard player on the bass players stage side, I'm often watching his fret playing to check myself, especially when I'm first learning an arrangement. I actually guessed a couple right even though I don't play any of those songs. Very cool exercise, especially when playing live and your monitor mix isn't perfect, it really helps to know other instruments. :)

I don't even think the most impressive part of his playing is his technical skill, though he's certainly amongst the very best. For me, the part of his bass playing that is so hands down better than just about everyone else I've ever seen is his sense of melody. He does insane technical double tapping stuff, but it's the melodic and musical aspects that result from those skills that impresses me even more.

I'd have to disagree. While Charles is an excellent bass player he's more like the thunder in the sky that announces his presence, while Davie is more like the earthquake shaking the ground demanding it. It's the difference between a tapper and a slapper, they both rock

I saw Davie504 first, which eventually led me to Charles. Both bassists are my personal heros, but Charles stole my heart away for 3 reasons : 1) he's a ginger 2) his south African accent, and 3) he is a genius on the BASS! I wish I could grow up to be Charles on bass, and Ani diFranco for her singing, songwriting - Uber prolific - and touring (not to mention remaining independent, having made her own label). Thanks to all the artists for inspiring us all!

For me as a guitarist it’s surprisingly easier to understand what’s going on without hearing it. This way I see the fingering and I could hear the melody in my head quite easily. I would have never thought that before. Thank you Davie!
