I don't even think the most impressive part of his playing is his technical skill, though he's certainly amongst the very best. For me, the part of his bass playing that is so hands down better than just about everyone else I've ever seen is his sense of melody. He does insane technical double tapping stuff, but it's the melodic and musical aspects that result from those skills that impresses me even more.

I saw Davie504 first, which eventually led me to Charles. Both bassists are my personal heros, but Charles stole my heart away for 3 reasons : 1) he's a ginger 2) his south African accent, and 3) he is a genius on the BASS! I wish I could grow up to be Charles on bass, and Ani diFranco for her singing, songwriting - Uber prolific - and touring (not to mention remaining independent, having made her own label). Thanks to all the artists for inspiring us all!

Charles not only are you an amazing musician 🙂 You are the winner of this contest for the mere fact you did not put a lot of crappy background music beneath the empty track - while we’re trying to guess what’s going on. As a guitar player. I’m trying to pick out which blade of grass I like in a large park, and then come back next Wednesday and show the same one to you again

I can't believe I managed to do 4/11. By the way, Charles' results might get sensitive for american audiences

I played bass from 2002 until 2005. I sold it in 2009. Somehow I still got: Can't Stop, Hysteria, Californication, and Killing in the name of. I'm pretty pleased with that, considering.

I'm honestly surprised at how much I was able to guess just from the tempo of the slaps. Probably my drummer instincts but still, I wanna learn notes someday.

You two are utter and complete legends of bass. I heard that Stu Ham wants to meet you both, as does Ingwe Malmsteen. No seriously as a guitarist, your bass playing makes me so excited and want to just jam!

For me as a guitarist it’s surprisingly easier to understand what’s going on without hearing it. This way I see the fingering and I could hear the melody in my head quite easily. I would have never thought that before. Thank you Davie!
