A lot of people, including myself, don’t realize how much of the music in Metallica is actually a bass instead of a guitar because of the amount of overdrive that Cliff used and how skilled he was at bass. He was a game changer for the bass community.

"When a Man lies, he murderers some part of the World. These are the pale deaths which Men miscall their lives. All this I cannot bear to witness any longer. Cannot the Kingdom of Salvation take me Home?" Cliff had me blown away when I first heard Anesthesia/Pulling Teeth, then subsequently on every track that he played. I can't listen to" Orion" without my eyes welling up. I think the montage at the end of "Cliff 'em All" left an indelible mark upon me with "Orion" playing in the background. His loss was a great one to the music world, but his bass legacy will forever live on. Rest in Peace, Cliff.

I feel you mate, Cliff for me is so important. I started playing bass by reading his history and listening to Metallica’s classic albums. Also, Cliff and my dad share birthday, and he gave me my first Metallica T shirt ever (like 13-14 years ago), with Cliff on it.

@@vitorqueiroz8791 There about 30 separate comments like yours already. I think that counts as "Isn't anybody...?" No "hate" towards you, buddy, but I really don't care for the meme itself. It's whiney and too "memey" for my old, grumpy tastes. I surely don't believe that Charles omitted the "For Whom the Bell Tolls" intro from the list for any other reason than he wanted to pick 10. Picking just TEN out of all of Cliff's bass lines and solos isn't easy, and a compromise had to be made somewhere. I don't understand how people can't just appreciate what Charles *did* do, as opposed to what they think he *didn't* do. I suppose it's the old adage of: "You can't make everyone happy." Oh well. Rock on anyway, dude. Take care. 🤘🏻😎

@@watergraves1811 Dude, that's a sweet story! I appreciate you sharing it! It doesn't get much more badass than having a Dad (whose birthday is shared with Cliff's) who bought you your first Metallica shirt. Period. The fact that Cliff is on it is really freaking poetic, and truly awesome! Cliff is unlike any other, and his influence on people is still such a beautiful thing to see. His father, Ray, was an absolute treasure and a sweet man. He celebrated and supported his late son's memory all the way up to when he passed away at 94 years of age. I was absolutely gutted when I learned of Ray's passing, but found some peace with it knowing that he could be with Cliff once again. Cliff 'em All!

Because of the pandemic I lost my job several months ago, and since nobody is hiring for the same reason I decided to do something I've always wanted to do: learn to play all of Cliff Burton's songs. At the same time I bought his biography "To Live is to Die" and as I was learning the songs I was reading the book. I finally finished all the songs last month along with the book. It was quite the emotional ride. BTW, happy MASTER OF PUPPETS day, it was released 35 years ago today... damn I feel old.

The big thing that often gets overlooked by people who think Cliff is overrated is the circumstances he wrote and recorded under. This man was writing and recording some of the best bass compositions and parts of all time before he was 24, in the 80s, with equipment that wasn't intended for his instrument, primitive recording techniques, under time constraints. Imagine what he could have achieved if he was alive today, with the last 35 years of experience that he would have had, with the recording time that Metallica has these days and the modern equipment he would have access to. The man managed to record Damage Inc in suboptimal conditions, imagine what he'd be making nowadays

I generally dislike bass as an instrument (gasp) but when a bassist has the unbelievable skill, talent, and musicianship of Cliff Burton and Charles Berthoud then I simply can’t stop listening! Thank you to Charles for yet again shedding a spotlight on one of the greatest bassists/musicians I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. Not that Cliff doesn’t get plenty of credit for his genius but seeing someone at Charles’ level pay his respects really does say it all to me.

Cliff was true musician. He is the reason i picked up guitar. First time I heard Anesthesia 1983 Metro, I was lying on my bed with broken leg in the late hours. My jaw dropped and Istarted crying . And every time i hear Anesthesia I imagine Cliff slowly headbanging on the stage. Rip true artist.
