Great info.i find that anything that distracts from the vocal can be a liability.

Cracks me up, man. Your two-word statement between 9:41 and 9:43? Dude, I say this with every song, if not every day, even after writing for years. Good stuff here.

I had no idea what I was doing! Love it! I listen to some of my recordings from a few years ago and feel embarrassed that I ever shared them LOL! Now I have to win those would be fans back some how! But in our defense, KZbin has come a long long way!!!! There wasn't content like this back in the day.

Hey Charles! Been a while since watching one of your videos. This one really clicked with me. I’ve produced half a dozen songs over a couple years, learning as I go. And I listened to my first song recently and my vocal is pretty sad. (Of course I loved it when I made it - so proud of myself) So this tutorial has me enthused to re-record the vocals. What I notice most was my nervousness of singing. This is what I realized from your video. But confidence is up now and I’ll give the song some new life! I also upgraded to a new mic. Can’t afford that Neumann like you have though! 😉 Thanks for the tips, Gianni❤

Fantastic Charles. Possibly you have a tutorial on compressing vocals? Do you apply that during the recording or after? Same with EQ… I would think eq is after, unless there’s something blaring. Thanks

Hey, usually people record it raw and apply EQ and compression and reverb after. Better to have the originals and work on them later

If you have UAD Apollo interface and have LA2A I highly recommend using it on the input printed into the recording. 4-5 db gain reduction. Just saves you work later. May as well tame the peaks at the source. This is what Charles does. But as samigirardet mentioned,,,,,if you don't know much about compression, may be better to always have your originals. The more comfy you become with Comp, the more you'll end up using it on the input. My opinion. In the end, its all about workflow. Saving time saves my back.

Hey Charles. Thank you for all of your great advice. I have UAD console and have the Neve 1073 I set in unison. What are your typical settings? I'm still a bit confused with the dials as apposed to the bands when shuffling through frequencies. Thanx Much!

Talk about beat and timing.... hey guys, if you listen to guys like Stewie Wonder (Isn't She Lovely, Sly Stone (If You Want Me To Stay), just think how well they sing in the "pocket", in other words, being so perfectly in sync with the band. Something I need to work on for sure.

Hey! This was really helpful. I'm still totally confused about compression. I'm using presets in the stock Logic compression choices and tweaking. but I don't really KNOW what the F I'm actually doing. Another question I have is when I have a great mix in Logic, it's waaay to loud when I bounce it and bring it in to adobe premiere. so I turn everything down... but then it seems like when I upload a video to youtube. my track is softer than everybody elses... argh!

Hope you don't mind me chiming in. I had that same problem. Its all about mastering. I use LANDR. Gets it up to industry standard in one click of a button. So does Logics new mastering plugin. Your volumes will always be different using different apps. But if you have it set to industry standard, it should work itself out in any platform.
