Hey Charles, interesting tip about applying EQ and compression prior to recording the vocal. My question is how do you know what settings to set your compressor to before there's vocal information in there? Thanks as always for the tutorials! This song is SICK!
@CharlesCleyn2 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy, good question, ideally you would be monitoring while you're setting the compression level so you know how much you're compressing. But it's a good rule of thumb not to apply too much compression on the way in because thats something you can't change after the fact.

@@CharlesCleyn A run through of your vocal plugins and how you set them up are u using just logic ? You’ve got Really crisp clear vocals with just the right amount of delays as reverb ? Do you bus delays reverb Keep comp on main slot ? Thanks
@CharlesCleyn2 жыл бұрын
Hi Christopher, I'm also using the UAD console to record. This comes with all the Universal Audio interfaces. That means I can record with some compression and EQ. After recording, I apply compression as an insert and I bus out my delays and verbs.

Do you have a video on how to mix your harmonies? I’d like to make it sound smother and more cohesive because they always sound a bit out of place 😅

Other than what little bit I go into them in this video, not really, but that's a good idea for another video.

Very nice voice, good example, good tips. What I don‘t understand is the fact that after automation the volume fader can’t be moved without going back to the starting point of automation, I don’t know if you understand what I mean, but I think that e. g. volume automation in a track prevents a change of the volume fader when you want to make the whole track louder or the opposite. All the automations should move relatively with the fader. This should be fixed! So you should be able to change the volume of a track with automations anytime and the automations should „walk“ with the fader. Or am I wrong?
@CharlesCleyn2 жыл бұрын
Hi GAD, this is something i didn't find out until recently but you can actually to a "relative" volume automation which will do exactly what you're saying but you need to make sure you choose "relative" in the automation list when you're doing the automation. For me, I've just got use to doing it with the gain plugin so I stick with this.
@vewilli2 жыл бұрын
@@CharlesCleyn Thanks so much, very good tips: gain chain would be alright, even better would be „relative“ in the automation list, if I find where that is! Somehow I thought there must be a solution; you gave me two! 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻

why do my dry vocals have so much harshness and boominess if i have a vocal booth and am far away from the mic and am recording at a decent level
@djpyramid Жыл бұрын
The problem is that the vocal is too dynamic anyway. Thanks for the tips though, great help. Just came across the best video on vocal production by a producer named Nick Mavromatis and I realised how it’s not all about mixing. His production on vocals is just INSANE. You should the vocal production episode in particular.
