I definitely heard the Steely Dan, reminded me of some Peg. Great ost to cover, I absolutely love these more complex chord structures trail blazing these more popular franchises, gives us hope for the future of vg ost's.

Generally, I find that the Japanese VGM composers draw a lot of inspiration from jazz. Explains why The Consouls jazz covers always enhance even already great tunes eg kzbin.info/www/bejne/fai8d5yYabemf9k and kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHvJdauperWWfMU

If you haven't already, I HIGHLY recommend the Metagroove album by the J-MUSIC Ensemble. They took a bunch of tracks from the P5 soundtrack and basically turned them into standards. (It also features Adam Neely on a song)

The music and style to this game set it apart from any other RPG I have ever played. I am so glad you broke down some of the music theory behind a few songs (and I really hope you do a few more). As someone who has never studied, I was able to follow along, but I know there is so much more to understand

I'm currently playing through Persona 5 Royal and have to say the game has so much style and creates a great atmosphere. From the music, to the graphics and all the other things that makes the game a smooth package, when at it's best, it feels like a party. Speaking as a grown man, P5 being my second Persona game after 4, there's a little to much highschool life etc. in the games, but as a total package their just such good games that it doesn't matter.

I'd heavily reccommend checking out the OSTs from the rest of the Persona series, they're really good! Persona 4 leans more into a Pop sound and the harmony in songs like "I'll Face Myself" and "Shadow World" is really good. Persona 3 takes a lot of hip hop influences and is rhythmically super interesting!

This game is one of the few games you can spend over 100 hours on listening to the same few songs on loop and not want to pull your ears from your skull - there's so much satisfaction and variance in the music that you don't get bored or annoyed by it even after listening to it for a long time.
@jameshaughney23272 жыл бұрын
I've been playing the game since it went on GamePass earlier this week/last week and like...normally I put a stream or other video on while I'm playing games but as soon as I heard the intro song I KNEW I just couldn't do that and give the game it's dues. Holy FUCK is the music so good all the time.

I love your breakdown of one of my favorite video game sound tracks. As someone who loved fusion back in the 80s, the Persona 5 soundtrack is exciting and smooth all at the same time. It was great to see your excitement about the chord progressions and "left turns" as I like to call them that the music takes.

Yesss finally! Something about Japanese jazz and video game music is so groovy and interesting. Super interesting to see you express what stands out to you and take the tunes apart a bit :)

There are actually some interesting reasons behind it, relating to everything from the structure of their language to the timing of when they appropriated Western and South Korean culture. I've been obsessed since I discovered how crazy the jazz influences are in JP music

its amazing how the persona 5 ost still holds up with its awesome songs like strikers menu theme, axe to grind, whims of fate and is in the top 20 gaming soundtracks in my opinion when theres other good soundtracks like sonic mania, thunder force, streets of rage, Doom and more. shows how much talent was put into this GOD TIER SOUNDTRACK!!
