I’m in music school as a freshman and there are ppl in my studio who have learned the equivalent of their junior recital as a freshman. My professor always stresses that our success isn’t based on how good the others are compared to us, but rather on what we put into it. As long as you work hard, you’re a success
@DavidDeJesusMusic3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely okay to come in not being the best. When you start to make progress, that grabs the Professor's attention and when you keep that momentum going you gain their respect as well as the respect of your peers. Good luck!
@JoshuaWillis893 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I thought I sucked when I started music school. My first ever audition at UNT I didn’t make a single band. I worked really really hard and started catching the attention of professors who I felt should not even know my name. It’s an interesting experience. I think a lot of us underestimate how much talent we have when we start comparing ourselves to others. I was never a great player, but I had a talent for composing and arranging and a desire to learn everything about every instrument, and eventually I even got more confident about my playing. My only regret is that I didn’t really develop a relationship with any of my professors outside of school because honestly I was still pretty intimidated after I graduated. That’s ok, because at the time I wasn’t trying to do anything involving music as a career.

But now that I'm 24 and I wish I could start up music school again, but the only way I got there was the straight-out-of-highschool scholarships that I don't have anymore. I'm married and still growing to overcome the habits that formed in the dark parts of my depressive episodes like napping and not going outside by myself and customer service jobs being an anxiety nightmare. But what I want for myself is to fulfill my potential while also supporting my husband and not dragging us down financially by going back to school. :/ I don't live near my old university and my credits won't transfer to just anywhere, but I wish I could start music school again at my local university.
