If one is nerdy enough about something, one can still viscerally react to it nearly as much after the 100th listen as the first listen. I know because that is how I am, if the thing is cool enough (for me). I’ll still freak out in a good way at something I have heard dozens of times. Part of it is the thing being complex enough to not fully comprehend it on the first few listens; the rest is sheer RESPECT and ADMIRATION after you DO more or less understand (the technical part of) it.

Wow, I am blown away. Incredible video. I have to say, I enjoy videos like this much more than the reactions to movie scores and show themes. While that music does have cool chords, they aren’t so mind blowing. This video is the pinnacle of something you used to talk quite extensively on. Feel. Eigsti's feel is incredible, which is part of why it is so incredible. I would love to see more videos like this.

I was lucky enough to attend the Stanford Jazz Workshop when Taylor and Julian Lage were instructors. I learned more there in one week as a bass a player than I felt like I had in years of playing before that. Taylor is such a nice and down to earth guy as well which makes it all the better. Joshua Crumbly was a student there at the same time. It’s been awesome to see his development too, he had only just started playing upright bass!

At this caliber of chops and harmony- well actually even several levels below it- music becomes too complex for me to tell the difference between this and a run of the mill good jazz pianist. And I've been a musician hobbyist (with a degree, yikes) for decades. But this is just so far out of my comprehension I wouldn't have known or noticed that it was so special compared to anything else if Charles hadn't told me. And I get it a bit after my 5th listen but it's still out of my league of understanding. Just like watching a grand master chess player play and a really really good chess player play. I'd have no idea one is a grand master. They'd both be in the stratosphere to me. Anyone relate to this? Jazz on this level makes me feel kind of like a dummy?

I disagree, ... he didn't have to create a landing "where" he landed, because he has already mastered landings. (I know from experience... once you are able to stick the landing no matter what situation your coming from, you don't worry about sticking the landing anymore, ...it just happens, ... no planning involved 'usually', (though there are exceptions... i just don't feel this was one of those exceptions...). ...the landing doesn't have to be planned, when one knows how to stick the landing already. (every smart jazz musician knows how to resolve back to the tonic, with seeming effortlessness, which is indeed a talent, but it's a talent that pretty much every pro jazz player has already mastered..)

Nice vid! What you are diggin is the sound. Most pianists work in the wrong order working on notes first, time, and then sound. Work on sound, then time, then notes... this will move you along faster. Think Tatum and Peterson and their sound. Slow Tatum down and really he is playing pretty inside harmonically but with an amazing sound that no one has duplicated.

Who cares about this dude's piano playing techniques? The only people who care about piano players are other piano players. Not women. Women don't care for piano players. They like male singers. Can this dude write and produce a simple hit song that can garner over a billion streams? Probably not. This isn't the 1940s. Unless you write hit songs, play classical music or jazz, you're wasting your time with the piano.
