Damn, I can't believe I've just now gotten interested in USAC racing. Those last 15 laps in the main feature were absolutely intense!

forgive the stupid question but when did sprint cars get away from running v6s? at least one is in the first heat. sorry, this is slightly before my time
@charlesintestine8 жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question at all. It kind of went away after the 1995 season because the V6 had so much of an advantage in weight. The V6, which is obviously inferior to a standard V8 in terms of horsepower, had its weight advantage taken away starting with the 1996 season. So, at that point, the use of the V6 engine slowly disappeared except for a view pavement short tracks where horsepower isn't as big of a factor as it is at big tracks such as Winchester/Salem/IRP. You will still see two or three running at Anderson's "Little 500" each May.

thanks for the info! sadly i don't know a lot about sprint car history. which is a shame as i quite like the racing. i know in the 50s they used offenhauser motors. someone needs to do a few books on the history of sprints and midgets. robbin miller maybe?
