We were so lucky yesterday. The disallowed goal, the penalty miss, and the overturned penalty decision are just the flash points. Leeds had other clear cut chances as well with plenty of shots going off target when they should have scored. That said, we kept on defending bravely. And we made our own luck. We dug in like dogs and I absolutely love that. Especially having had that game against united where we should have won but lost, this game evens it up a bit

If it wasn't the miss of the penalty by Bamford it would be a save by Ramsdale. At the end of the day, both teams made four shots on goal. So Leeds dominated the game in the second half but Arsenal defended well, except for the sloppy pass by Saliba and the careless fall by Gabriel.
@TwistedSoul20022 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if you watched the game but it wasn’t just complete luck that we won the game. The disallowed goal was because of a foul. You can’t foul someone and claim they were lucky they got fouled. Their penalty was bs. One of their players was BLATANTLY offside in the first phase of play- I can’t believe VAR didn’t look at that movement and instead focused on Saliba. Furthermore, in my opinion Ramsdale made him miss the pen. If you watch the penalty, Ramsdale guesses correctly and makes a movement to his left as Bamford is taking the kick. This makes Bamford adjust the direction of the kick and he tries to put it closer to the post but drags it wide.

Thanks Charles. From the start of the match, one just had this wierd feeling like it was going to be that type of game. I'm just happy we won, you can see the players were just out of it in the 2nd half. Jesus seemed not his usual self, not sure what that was about but we move. Quick one, I've noticed lately people have shifted post from Xhaka and have now taken up Gabriel as the new fall guy. All it takes is for the media and fans to hold a reputation about him and the match officials will now start also. Yesterday's match showed this, one of the commentators made a mistake saying Gabriel cause the first penalty and later corrected himself and even the 2nd penalty which was eventually overturned, I feel that the fact that it was Gabriel played a part in the linesman giving it. Saliba equally makes mistakes, but you hardly hear piling about it leaving Gabriel as the low-hanging fruit whenever people are looking for a fall guy. Don't get me wrong, Gabriel has his hairy moments, but I feel, just it was for Xhaka, it was always blown way out of proportion.

still not sure about Arteta's inverted LB thing. few LBs in the world can do a good job there, and when they can, they are usually defensively not as good. Cancelo costing City the goal was the prime example of the defensive concerns of this tactics.

managing fixtures, match fitness, and injuries is probably what's going to define our season. second half against Leeds; Odegarrd, Martinelli, Jesus, seemed weary and didn't show the level and intensity they've been playing for most of this season. even some stray passes and mental lapses which are uncharacteristic from Tomiyasu, Gabriel, and Saliba could be indicative of the mental weariness the team is going through. I would prefer Arteta to rotate the team more often to rest our key players whenever possible even if it means focusing solely on the league and fielding more youth players for Europa, but I understand the squad is not as deep as he'd like to rotate and keep the quality. Edu has his work cut out to bring in that deep lying midfielder cover for Partry/Xhaka and a first team quality forward player to cover for Martinelli/Saka/Jesus in January as minimum. even if it is more expensive than the summer window, our current position is too promising to not go for it this season. this win at Leeds shows we're learning to win ugly and when we're not our best. when our starting 11 is fit and rested, we can compete with anyone in the league; we've beat spurs, and more importantly beat Liverpool (who I thought were our bogey team before the last game). Even for City, their Liverpool defeat shows they are vulnerable; and our game with them last season shows that we can compete with them if our team is fit and focused.

I don't understand the criticism aimed at Gabriel Magalhães by so many people. It seem as if people 'have' to blame him even if it's not his fault. Sure he was a bit rash in the end but he did it only in reaction to a foul by Bamford, and VAR correctly overturned the red card and penalty. Now compare this to Saliba's second half performance: it was one of the worst defensive displays by "any" Arsenal player this season. Saliba was beaten by Bamford, who then scored, although only because Bamford had committed a foul on Gabriel. Saliba subsequently handballed to concede a penalty, although one that Bamford missed. Then there was an unforced error in possession by Saliba to put Bamford through on goal, which forced Aaron Ramsdale to rescue us with a brilliant save. Saliba was then caught on the wrong side of Bamford, having a nibble at Bamford as he breezed through on goal, and we were fortunate that Bamford didn’t go to ground or it would have been a straight red for Saliba as he was the last man. But I don't see many people criticizing Saliba for such a poor display. And that's fine because he is still young and will get better. But to treat Gabriel differently even when he put on a very fine defensive effort - I do think he was our second best player vs Leeds behind Ramsdale - is just not fair.

The reality is Arsenal were under the cosh for the entire second half, and Saka became a passenger (not alone, but your praise for him in this game is OTT), and Leeds could (and should) have scored 3. We just could not keep the ball at all under the severe press - worrying and frustrating tò watch. Only steadied the ship when Tomi went to RB and formation changed to back 3 / 5. Gabriel could have thrown away 2 points at the death, unforgivable and needs to be given a severe bollocking! Incredibly lucky win, but delighted the Invincibles record survives another season in the era of financial doping.

I'm sick of hearing we were lucky because they missed their penalty, are we just going to ignore the fact that the Leeds winger was offside in the build up. Should never have been a penalty due to the offside. Yes Leeds played well but we had the same amount of shots on target and the bulk of possession. Its not luck its resilience. We deserve a lot more credit for this performance. Gabriel had an excellent game, he played far better than Saliba who got a free ride because he's flavour of the month. Saliba has been fantastic on the whole this season but big Gabby has been very good for a couple of seasons now. Setting aside the penalty Saliba gave away he also misplaced a pass right on the edge of our box which nearly cost us. Other managers will be looking at these games and next time we may not be so lucky, particular against a team with better strikers. We can't afford to throw away points against "lesser" opposition if we want to still be challenging in April and we rode our luck yesterday.

@@UnknownUser-rb9pd That's because Leeds were pressing for 90 min and we were tired after Norway. Little to no teams can do that for such a long time. Against Bode it was on an artificial pitch, the home team were undefeated in 14 European games and we're playing like it was a cup final. Southampton and PSV aren't going to play like leeds. Only City and Liverpool can do that.
@UnknownUser-rb9pd2 жыл бұрын
@@moviegooner49 In Norway we only played four players who started against Liverpool. And when we did bring on others they had less than half an hour to play. God help us if we're playing top teams in the Champion's League next season which will be a lot more difficult than Bodo. Even the travelling for the players was not exactly demanding as Bodo have their own airport and is a shorter flight than many European destinations. It's been a brilliant start but we have to be careful we don't get complacent. I know many people think Arteta walks on water but there have been many times in the last 3 years that we've slipped up badly and there has been a resistance to changing things around. The last thing I want to see is the gloating from other top six fans that they knew that Arsenal were going to do their usual bottle job.

Invincible was nice but means little. That side would have lost league by 10 points to City lol. They made a win 3 points to to encourage attacking play. Maybe we would have gotten 100 points playing for wins right to the end 🤣. That isn't a popular opinion but we were lucky in quite a few of the draws. This side draws few games. 👍

Make no mistake. Gabriel M is a very very good player and defender. My worry is that he lacks attitude. By this, I am talking about some of his careless mistakes he is upto, especially during the game with Liverpool and recently, the game with Leed. What Gabriel M did with the Leeds striker should be condemned. It was stupid and uncall for. Ladies and gentlemen, on another day, an act.like that will cost Arsenal too much. Arteta need to speak to Gabriel. He needs to sit-up with regards to such acts on the field of play

It was nice to see Saka scoring with his right foot. Tomiyasu or Tierney will depend on tactics, if we do a 3-2-5 then Tomiyasu, if 2-3-5 then Tierney. Obviously 3-2-5 means a longer pass to the wings especially Martinelli, but can return to a defensive shape faster. Gabriel is fine just sometimes nervous, but I hope his yellow cards do not build up.

About Tierney situation, against Liverpool was ok but yesterday Tierney should play. We need to put bit more respect to Tierney, and Arteta should play him. He is a better defender, he is a leader. With a run of games he should be back to his best again

Big Gabi has to keep his cool. It's amazing to see him fight and show passion but he has to use his head. For me it when it comes to Tomi / Tierney , it would depend on the game. On games you need to load one side and want an overlapping full back KT is your man all day , on days when you need to defend and fight it out , it should be Tomi.

Trust Arteta will have them working on how to handle a press coming out of our end - lost possession far too often - next up of course is City....Haaland will convert those chances Bamford missed

Pains me to say this but in Zinchenko looks like we have bought ourselves another liability on left. No wonder Mikel is already planning for Tomiyasu last backup left back 😐 Tierny just has to suck it up.

because he has a few mistakes!? tell me which Arsenal player out there is perfect? Even throughout our Golden era with Wenger we had players making mistakes. We are top with Gabriel at CB so how did happen if he's a problem? He's very aggressive and young playing in the toughest league in the world and we riding high. same so called fans saying Saka was done until last week and Auba is also done yeah!?Way too much FIFA. put the controller down for a few days.

Gabriel is a liability, he always has a mistake in him, and it all too often leads to a goal. Saliba & White CB's Tomiyasu and Tierney full backs.
