I met my future wife in 1987. Around 1990 she tried to teach me this on piano. I could sorta play it but I gave up. She passed away Jan 3 after 31 years. I simply came across this and it took me back. Ended up crying. Bless you baby. I love you forever my little soulmate. See you again one day my love. Hope its soon.

Mike, the Steele guitar player behind Charlie, was in absolute heaven. The piano player knew he was watching greatness like he’d never seen before.

Don Helms, wow...a legend in his own right.

I had the pleasure and honor of meeting Don one night. He was supposed to play with Jet Williams but the gig was being delayed because of rain. (It was eventually called off). He came off the bus and talked to fans. Everyone else was asking "What was Hank really like?, Did he really drink that much?" When he came over to me I told him how much I loved his work and he was part of the reason I bought a Pedal Steel and was trying to learn to play it. He set and talked to me until the show was canceled after that. He had the same guitar, A Gibson Console Grande with him that night. He was kind enough to let me touch it. He told me the story about how it set under his bed for years. Martin Mull said playing the blues with B.B. King was sort of like having an informal chat about religion with Jesus. I told Don that bit and told him that's how I felt talking to him about steel guitar. He laughed. I started to wonder if he was messing with me, he would ask things like "Have you heard the Patsy Cline song Walking After Midnight" As politely as I could I told him that I was well aware of Patsy's hits. "Well I played this guitar on that song." I wish I had a Sharpie with me and had thought to get an autograph. I will always cherish the memories.

There’s a long story about Your Cheating Heart I learned from an interview with Jet Williams on a radio show. According to her, 78 records had an A side and B side, the A side being what the industry thought would be the hit. Your Cheating Heart was the B side. In all places, New York City, in the middle of the night, a half awake DJ put the B side on the air. Well, the rest is history.
