This film is my most favorite of all Charlie's motion pictures. ❤ Dear Charlie, you're still funny, even in 2024. I'm sure it would have tickled you pink to know how many generations you've imprinted on.

A lot can be said about this film. But among other things, I think this was Chaplin's way of saying good bye to the silent films, an art form that he loved and was master of.

But yes, I don't understand these kinds of classic films that are mistreated like that! Chaplin himself composed the music for these films, and to take that away from him is to trample on his work, nothing more, nothing less. Even though I love Mozart! I recently saw a so-called original version of the great classic Nosferatu by Murnau, with ambient music on a loop.....anything!! How can we massacre such works! A silent film is inseparable from its music ! However, it seems obvious ;)
