12 years later this shows up in my recommendations. Brings back memories of seeing Chameleon at bars I can't even remember the names of, but one particular New Year's Eve at the Withrow Ballroom.

I am proud to say I went to HS with Charlie and was lucky to see him play superbly with other class mates many times. all great musicians. Out HS turned out many fine people educated in the arts. actors, musicians, entertainers. Thank you Joliet High-west for a great experience.

I saw Chameleon several times around Austin/Albert Lea/Mankato. I know I saw the first and second version of the rotating drum set, but not the third. My friends still think I'm lying when I tell them I used to see Yanni perform at the Terp Ballroom.

I sit here with tears in my eyes... awesome memories from the 80's. I am formerly from Marshall, MN. Charlie is a ghost from my past. I am stunned and overjoyed to relive some of these great songs! I would love to get to know you freedomroad64! Don's Ballroom in Ghent, MN holds the most memories for me. Rock on forever Chameleon! (Chic giggles)

@@Steven_Snell You are lucky to have Charlie to instruct. Charlie has been a mentor for close to 40 yrs. One of the most profound teachers I can only imagine. I feel lucky to have met him. Best wishes to you in your musical journey.

I can't believe I never caught Chameleon as I was in the bar scene back then, in Northern Illinois, or maybe I did and was just too stoned to remember!

This is really spectacular to see this. And way before tommy lee did this. I have the first two chameleon records in my collection. I prefer techno color. Is it possible to put some live footage from the early eighties up with the whole band? Or maybe the video of little sister? Thanks from the netherlands.

People don't believe me when I tell 'em about this place. I think it might have been the epicenter of bar band music in the late 70s. Do you remember what it was like on Friday nights? If the fire inspector had ever gone in there, he would have shut it down!! If it was designed for 300 people, there was usually over a thousand packed in. it was almost impossible to get to the bar! Charlie would save the upside down drumming for the last set of the night. Yanni was just another axeman at the time

the Guthrie concert was the bomb!

@bruce lee, Yanni was the producer, key songwriter and front keyboard player, that is not what I would call "just another axeman".

Tommy Lee likely got the idea from Jack Valentine, whose kit rotated upside down in his band Whitehorse which included (wait for it...) guitarist Mick Mars. Here is footage from 1975. (TLDR; Tommy is full of crap) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnesomVnl76Zbqc

All these years I thought Tommy got the idea because he wanted to one-up Neil Peart's rotating kit. But Charlie was doing this before Neil added the back side to his kit, which was why it would rotate during his solo.
