@@lindboknifeandtool In RL he comes from a very musical family and actually wrote most of the songs "his character wrote" in the show. He's also one of the main writers for the show. Tho I believe Rob and Glen have written more episodes than him. As far as his character goes, I think this youtube illustrates quite well that despite his character being an idiot, and kinda crazy lots of the time, he also has some hidden genius. So while his english may often be suspect and possibly illegible to others, he knows exactly what he wants and is able to put it on paper in a way that he can understand.

Charlie is consistently extremely intelligent. It's just also that his already nontypical brain simmering in glue fumes and alcohol for decades has resulted in him perceiving a world that is completely different from the one everyone else does, and acting accordingly. Everything he does is very rational, by the logic he observes the world to work on. As the world does not usually follow that logic in reality, most of the time he's a gibbering maniac. But every once in a while things line up so that he's experiencing the same stuff everyone else is, and when that happens he is untouchable. It makes you wonder what the world looks like to him generally, that most of what he does counts as well-considered and carefully-plotted plans, in that framework.
