The groove, the drive and class of CC's playing are unbeatable. He invented swing in jazz guitar.

It inspires me to jump off to do my own thing, especially rhythmically. To be in C. C's class. That's a gift. Thanks man!

@@JazzDuets Or maybe forment one of those modern thoughts that us old guys just can't understand. Ha!

The treasures here are in the attack, rhythmic sophistication, phrasing the logical musical sentences. The note values themselves are not really that interesting.
@JazzDuets5 күн бұрын
Yes! However I think it is a mistake to put the treasures in a hierarchy of importance. That is personal and unique for each player/level etc. And that is the beauty of music - we can be free to choose what to focus on and like. To be honest I am a little affronted when you say that the notes are not really interesting. I think the notes are killer. Charlie´s focus on the 6th etc, and the fact he he never plays the 7th - Amazing. What you said about the notes diminishes and seems to criticise an improvisation that is closes to perfection.

This is so dated. I am a modern man in a modern world, thinking modern thoughts. This is just some old guy music. He ornaments around the 3rds and 7ths. Great player.
@JazzDuets7 күн бұрын
oh man! He was not old! He died at 26! What you say affronts my sensibilities. Charlie´s solo is so killing and fresh to me. You mention notes - but it is the rhythm that is so off the charts, like his life depends on it. Who plays like that now? I do want you to think about these words: "you cannot crticise and feel good. You can never look at the absence of something and be in alignment with who you are’". Understand this and you will live a happier life I guarantee! Good luck

@normalizedaudio2481 The only thing that got old here is your comment. Charlie Christian’s solos are still a great resource for learning bebop language. A modern thinker is open to learn from all the available material, not just the current fashion. If anything, your comment suggests you have an ‘old guy’ attitude.

“It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing”, said the great Duke Ellington. We should always start from this concept and then elaborate all kind of "modern" jazz around it. Please listen the solo of Barney Kessel kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3nYq2yErq10q6csi=OvHtaidGhkL4iiLo starting at 2:50 in "Slow Burn" live at Concord to understand how you can elaborate from the Charlie Christian great inheritance
