Is this the same unit that won the accolade of the most decorated small unit in the U.S. Army? If so, the original unit was composed of mostly Japanese-Americans from Hawaii. What a contrast to the way the mainland Japanese were treated..One of the distinguished alumni of the 442 was Senator Daniel K. Inouye of Hawaii. He was also a holder of the Medal of Honor.

As an officer. If you find yourself in a situtation of probematic enlisted personell, gorget yourself some American Samoan NCO's (sr E-6 and E-7). Make them squad leads and plt. sergeants, acting tops for E-7. In quick order enlisted personell issues go away.
@boomdos42656 жыл бұрын
This is what makes the National Guard unique vs. say the Active Army and all other active and reserve branches. The National Guard is regional by nature and what happens is you get these strong homogenous groups with strong cultures taking it to wherever in the world they are called. It tells you the extent of the United States empire. Just kinda wish the US had something like a British military tattoo...where you have military units parading in traditional garb singing their own tunes and dance ala: Scottish Highlanders, Fijian Military band, Ghurka brigades etc.

The original 100th battalion was a Hawaii national guard unit. It was federalized and sent to North Africa and the Italy. The rest of the 442nd was raised from the from volunteers from Hawaii, the internment camps and from Japanese communities not affected by the internment order. The 442nd RCT was reunited in Italy and they later campaigned in France.
