@@Johnjackjack Not union and we don't have a lot of applicants because people don't know about the job. We actually have recruiters who reach out to people trying to get people because we are under staffed. There are also many different avenues to go allowing you to increase your salary even further. Everything you said is basically false. Also, I'm not even topped out in my position. I still get a 6% raise once I pass the rest of my training classes this year. There's also no Foremans. It's not a construction job. Literally anyone can apply and have a decent chance of getting hired on as a contractor. But they weed applicants out via a testing process before becoming a contactor.

But Charlie also claims that the half of college graduates ends up working at a job that does not require a college degree in many videos but that also means the other half works at a job that does require a college degree. As long as colleges don't claim all of their graduates work at a job that requires a college degree, college education is not a scam. They don't make such claims, at least most of them don't. While serving I used T/A to obtain an Associates and then when I left used half of my GI bill benefits to finish my bachelors degree. Kirk's arguments are grossly flawed. He assumes that because employers have lowered their standards, therefore the previous standard was necessarily bad. This is fallacious -- as someone who has hired people in the past, we lowered some requirements simply to increase the number of applicants. Also, if the job itself does not need those specific requirements, then why would I want to pay someone more? I have my master's degree only because my career path requires one. If I just wanted to serve coffee, I'd have no need for the degree; I could in my free time learn what I wanted to learn. If I went to Starbucks with a masters, they'd likely not hire me because they don't want to potentially argue with me about getting higher pay for being more educated. So much of his argument is based on a deeply flawed premise. So while valid, his argument is not sound.

Once upon a time a doctor or lawyer could take on 1 student and train them to the point of passing finals or the BAR. For lawyers, it was called "reading the law." Basic first 2 years should be done like this until the student figures out 1. If they like it, or 2. What specialty they would like to follow. Then go to college. The levels of divorce, alcoholism/drug abuse, and suicide with the medical field is atrocious. We need to give people the time to breathe.

College and education in my country teach hardwork and responsibility. We value education because we know that it's what we'll help us become better citizens. So, may I suggest that you change the slogan to "College in the US is a SCAM" instead to make it a lot clearer. Plus, we don't incur any debt after graduation.

Because its tainting the perception of college for the younger generation, and we are in desperate need of more professionals in the workforce. Its not fair and quite frankly a sinister attempt to delegitimize one of if not the most important entity in society. You cannot simply throw the cheap blanket statement of "college is a scam" without considering the consequences of a potential declining medical workforce in the future etc.

As a fellow Wheeling High School grad and member of its first full 4 year graduation class, I support Charlie Kirk! 😂 As a Chemical Engineering student at a Big 10 university, I took mathematics courses up to and including Advanced Differential Equations as well as Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Physics and ChE classes nearly to the point of exhaustion. . Haven't used any of it since I graduated, but my knowledge of mathematics, the sciences, and engineering principles have been extremely beneficial. College is simply about learning how to learn and to be inspired to remain a lifelong learner. You don't need a college degree to become a lifelong learner. I never felt that my parents owed me a college education.i financed 90% of my education, paid out of state tuition, took maximum loans, and quickly paid them off. 10 years after graduation, it's only about professional accomplishment. Back then, nobody cared if I was Democrat or Republican. Personal boundaries were respected. Our doors remained open to anyone interested enough to walk in. I feel sorry for students today as they face different challenges. I would have been devastated to have had any portion of my education interrupted by COVID. FIGHT WHEELING WILDCATS!

They should teach a classical education in schools like the best private schools do, they teach you how to learn, how to find evidence and weigh evidence, how to remember, put pieces together and how to argue your case it basically teaches you how to learn and hoe to understand any subject, going where the evidence takes instead of cherry picking evidence to fit press had conclusions. At university you should be uncovering your own evidence, learning yourself, what you pay for is for there to be someone there to guild you, help you if you are struggling, help you get to know people in the industry and help give you opportunities, not just wasting your time and money teaching you how to be an activist for the tutors cause they say have to be your own.

You've been watching too much youtube, man. You have.. GONE to university, right? I did 5 years of it and never was I told HOW to think. We engaged with data, learned various theories (yes, including long debunked ones like Sowell's super vague and unoriginal concerns) and were invited to critique and investigate on our own. The only caveat was mainly that our sources should be peer reviewd, which makes sense. Why should a professor read a paper that sources..... Charlie Kirk, for example? He is not a scholar, a researcher, a original thinker, or anything of the sort. He would never pass peer-review.

Some degrees are good like maths science, engineering, mathematics and with them you can go into industry but the problem is instead of just the very smartest people going to university like it was everyone can go and doing subject with no use outside activism, that is a scam. Even those who study stem subjects are so numerous that only the best will actually get a job in the field they studied, when we only sent the very smartest they had jibs waiting for them, they could be given a better education and achieve things. Now there's a lot of wasted time and money at college now and these young people don't even want you push their ideas and grow they just want to hear only what they already believe, it the colleges largely pushing activism instead of education and pushing useless activist subjects with no productive jobs. Years ago only the smartest when college, they could have a better education because there's more time and money for each student. Other people went trade schools and learnt the very trades we have a shortage of and the very trades that gave them the ability to earn a good living or even start a business and make a lot of money and a lot of decent jobs were open to people without a degree where they could learn on the job, do well, get promoted but now you are expected to have a degree to sort files in an office and often a degree that has nothing to do with th job. I went to university to study chemistry and the rate of learning was so slow I feel I would have been better off working in a lab as an assistant and go to college maybe 2 days a week to be set work to do and guidance as to what to learn and help in I didn't understand something, now it just bums on seats to collect the tuition fee in the future I'm afraid, its such a shame if you don't have a great teacher and some very good talent for the subject and push you own learning and hardwork it is a scam, to just turn up to maybe four hours of lectures spread though the week and that's if the tutor turns up for them all, if you just turn up and that's about it you are being scammed Charlie is right

The other thing is for some professions the college education is very expensive and the ROI is terrible. Social Work comes to mind. I can remember when I was job searching after graduate school, I came across some jobs that sounded interesting. You look at the requirements and the pay and it was crazy. I can't remember specific jobs. But I would have either needed to have doubled majored or taken several minors for very little starting pay. To one of Charlie's points. I know several people who majored in a subject and work in a completely different field. They often times make better money than if they had worked in their original field. My father told me at a young age a degree shows a perspective employer that you can learn. You start with a base point. The company would teach you what you needed to know to work there. This was for people getting a job that was different than their major. Completing a degree shows a level of commitment.

It is not the responsibility of the institution to ensure that you're job ready -- That onus is entirely on the student by teaching themselves the required soft-skills, I would in fact argue a lot of it is a generational thing, rather than an institutional thing. The only thing I would grant is that in a lot of cases most people simply won't earn enough to offset the amount of debt they've accumulated, or even more-so the gains don't justify the debt. But then these things also happen regardless of whether you do or don't. So arguing it as being a scam only works in a vacuum argument, as once you get in the realm of not going to college, then you end up in rougher spots where you need to be more self-disciplined, and be able to be autodidactic, which is not a skill all graduates have, so even then... An individual that earns, say, the average of a plumber even with a degree, could still earn substantially less than if they were to never have gone college of university in the first place.

Also, I guarantee you the level of thought and research required to do effective contract work is enhanced by the practice you did in college. People assume that 100% of education must be in and of itself directly applicable to a specific unique situation in life. That's not how education works. You will probably never have to determine the weight of 200 watermelons, yet Math class will ask us these questions to exercise the SKILL of multiplication and our understanding of mass.

College is not a scam. Earlier forms of educational institutions and society have failed to taught us that college degree is not necessary for certain jobs. Note that it is not every job because there are so many that require college degrees such as being scientists, computer engineers, lawyers, doctors, and many more. We were young when we went to college and as a result we didn't really know what to do. Some did but later turned out that they were not smart enough, had motivation or discipline. And some learned they liked other studies more than what they initially liked. To make it simple, there are two different types of students: those who are exploring and those who are set on what they will to do after graduation. Those who are exploring and don't know what they want to do by the time they graduate are those who will just acquire any degree and go to work in places that accept them or pay the most. Many of this type are the ones who shout that college is a scam because their current jobs don't need college degree. On the other hand, those who know what they want to do will go into the field where they actually studied for. I have seen my peers who made 200k right after college to 50k. Again not every major or career is created equal in pay. Some are acceptable of low pays as long as they love their careers. Like the kid in the video said, there are studies that require college education. College is not a scam but the society is in making you think that you need to go to college right after highschool. You should only go to college when you what to study something and go into careers that requires college degree.

They are more worried about being politically correct and getting money than giving you a good teaching system. yes if you work ur ass off then your making the most out of it, doesn't make it any less of a scam you just went through with learning to get the degree but at the end of the day the school got 1 or 2 extra years of your time, and they gained thousands of dollars more from you

I think the point that is forgotten is that, you have to work hard, it doesn’t matter your job, your have to work hard to be successful. And if you work hard and have a degree, you are way more likely to succeed.

BS. I learned CoBol programming language in my own time the last 2hrs of the day in high school. It was worthless within 5 years. I learned Basic, C++ on my own. Im not an engineer, but i can tell you how far you can bore an engine block before its garbage. I can read and code car ECM's and its Bus system. All without college. I was taught to use a tape measure at 5 and use one every day since. I can add, subtract, and multiply fractions in my head, and i hate math. I can do the same with decimals when measuring engine tolerances. Skills are taught, and they can be learned easily, if you were taught early how to learn for yourself . Forget history and English, i was 3 years beyond college levels in 6th grade. I taught my sons, now they surpass me in every metric. One is a lineman, and the other works in defense communications... all learned on the job. Im not the only one, many of the kids i grew up with have similar skills without college. My best friend is a plumber and is about to retire debt free. College is needed for 20% of high school graduates. Most others need trade schools if they aren't taught by a family member, and fewer still need nothing and will pick up most of what they need on the job. Your argument is from a completely different POV. Learn to turn some wrenches on your own, diagnose your next car or home issue. I bet you the plumber you call makes more with less debt than you currently do. Just sayin'.🤷‍♂️

Defense communications with no qualifications or credentials? Calling BS on that, bud. I do agree that yes, everyone learns differently and HOW the learning is done is key. But you are clearly some sort of exception. I always dislike when people who have a natural affinity for numbers shit on schools because other people, the vast majority of people do in fact need guidance to learn a concept. So because YOU are special, college is now a scam. Nonsense. Also lol, I guess 20% is just like, not a big number at all. You're aware of what the US population is, right? Something is not a scam because SOME people don't find it personally lucrative. Some private career colleges however are actually scams where they don't even have classes but claim they do after taking your money. THAT is a scam.

I think college is great with the right intention. I studied music (ah yes the useless degree) actually no. It gave me skills and knowledge for my field. I was able to use 10-20k worth of recording equipment to record. I build my own music events company, teach piano and mostly landed an internship with Spotify in marketing through my university and built a great network in the city of London. I’m from a small town up north and would have never received this in a city like London if it wasn’t for all that. I build my team down there. I used facilities. Educated myself on songwriting, music business and marketing all whilst building my own business and landed this internship with Spotify. Degree is what you make of it and what you go in for. If your just going in for a better job and study for example music or a creative degree your going in with the wrong intention. However, if you want to be a doctor or lawyer you need a degree If you want to build a business. College can give you network, knowledge and just fun experience but depending on the business you can also learn at home if that’s what you prefer To me college is also about a one in a lifetime experience. Building independence. I moved out at 18 and within my 3 years of study learnt and got all this. Imagine I didn’t id move out at 18 work as a waiter and in three years pretty much earn what college costs what a waste of time For the record I am from the uk our fees for three years including living costs are like 60k and we only study for three years. We also only pay like £300 per year when we earn over 30k and most people don’t end up paying it back. Theirs no rush to pay it in full so I can sympathise it’s not the same as the USA.

It's a sharing of idea and learning and then contributing to society. His only argument is student debt. And that is such a bullshit case to even begin with. For example: Koreans go to the Philippines to study English. Filipinos send engineering students to Japan and so on and so forth. This going to College makes you go into debt is seriously flawed. There's a lot of avenues and the world is open to you Americans and you also have the most advantage simply because of your currency advantage and you get shackled by a guy who wants to limit the potential of his own people by closing universities. Why are you even letting this happen and waste your time? I don't get it. Your problems are laughable to us.

Here's the deal about CK. He is the very intelligent exception to having only a hugh schedule degree. He has an exceptional ability to retain much of everything he reads. However, unfortunately very few of his thoughts are even close to being original. This is really not that difficult in the field of liberal-arts. That is if you are truly interested in those fields of study. He is simply regurgitating a combination of various works of scholars who are respected in those fields. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this but not that impressive to me. What is impressive is that he has basically turned his common sense opinion, that are the actual works of others, into a 'movement'. I do applaud him for that. However, I do not see much worth in his opinion mic debates on college campus that are primarily aimed at those who disagrees with him. It's very obvious to me that he most likely will not 'convert' those students. It's starting to look loke nothing but an ego trip for him. Surely and intelligent person could find a more effective platform to do good with his work. Perhaps it's the best way to get views & make a buck...?...sobeit. I've just never been a fan of sensationalist without much 'original' works of their own. On the otherhand I would love to see him shut down students of most college Liberal-Arts Degrees. They are mostly opinionated readings of whatever the professor believes. College should be reserved for advanced STEM based teaching/ learning. Im sure that even CK will admit that even his 'advanced-self-taught' intellect could not just read an advanced mathematics or engineering book & just be able to do it. I personally find the college educated Ben Shapiro much more interesting to listen to regarding the material that CK presents. However both are closely doing the same thing. BS just comes across much more credible to me. Maybe because we are both college educated & doesn’t appear to be so defensive in presenting the same material. Maybe because he was taught how to present more intelligently, more with the feeling of wisdom than the arrogant deep-rooted sensitivity of not going to college? One educates & the other tries to humiliate.

You cannot prove someone wrong who continuously moves the goal posts. Kirk goes from saying all of college is a scam, to saying just non-doctor/engineer/lawyer programs are a scam, then when the audience admits that yes they knew the risks of college, he just calls them part of the problem. Constant goal posting. He "cannot" lose because he doesn't have a consistent argument to begin with. For an experienced pundit, he did remarkably poorly. He also repeatedly changes topics, another form of goal posting. He seems confused at the raw tuition cost of 5k, and then uses ROOM AND BOARD as the real kicker. Yes, everyone and their mom knows paying a private institution to house someone is obviously going to be expensive. No one argues that. That is like saying driving is a waste of money because some luxury cars exist. Duh. He then stops short of bringing up international students aaround 8:15 probably because he is bright enough to know that that is a weak, outlier argument. Once he realizes that this kid actually won't back down, he starts to use some ethos and make himself look better: "I don't fault you... " etc etc. Trying to make "the system" the bad guy. He's a good rhetorician, but utterly dishonest and unsound.

@@kevinburrowes7743 What is the cost of education and living if you go to college overseas? Guess what? Lesser than your student debts. AND YES. Not everyone will go to Harvard or Oxford or MIT anyway. and another YES - there are a lot of universities abroad in Asia where the expertise are in Medicine or Business and you won't even go into student debt. American problems are like blonde problems. They're not really there but they pretend like it's so life and death. The truth is you of all people have probably the MOST AVENUES and CHOICE in terms of education.
