For those harp players wondering what harp & key etc. this is played on, this is a C harp in "country tuning" (so 5 draw is F#). If you want to play it on a regular C diatonic you need to be able to play 5 overblow (and, of course, it won't in general have the same tone quality). You can also play it on a Lee Oskar Melody Maker in the key of G, using 3 blow instead of 3 draw whole step bent for the A note.
@peteryu87114 жыл бұрын
I've been trying to learn the overblow but I don't really get it...is it possible to "tune" my regular C diatonic to the "country tuning?"
4 жыл бұрын
@@peteryu8711 you can tune it, but I'd instead buy a country tuned harmonica instead (or a melody maker as I have) so I don't need to fuss with it and to keep that C standard Richter tuned harp for blues. To tune it, if you're so inclined, you'd need to raise the pitch by 1/2 tone on the 4 draw, which can be done with a sanding tool or similar, removing a bit of brass from the tip of the reed until its pitch is raised. Check out www.dummies.com/art-center/music/harmonica/how-to-tune-your-harmonica/ for more information on how to do it.

Thanks Man , a billion years i'm playing and i've never touched a "country tuning " of my life! I must change that ! For this one i'm sticking to the C diatonic , playing around the melody , overblowing the 9th hole is fine for me , accentuating the bluesy feeling (maybe too much) but not playing the exact melody , approaching very much,. About overblowing 5 i found the new generation "Blues Harp " too thick and the effect 's not frank but that's the only ones i've got , they 've been offered to me . Thanks again for your infos and Greetings from Corsica.

Wow! I was not aware that Robben Ford knew Charlie McCoy, even though I listen to Robben Ford much and this sure sounds like him! I met Charlie McCoy in 1976, been playing harmonica 45 years and was full-time pro at 20, partly with things I learned from playing with his recordings.

@t00manypuppies2 жыл бұрын
can any of you harp players tell at 1:53 at the end of the phrase, is he doing a super fast draw 4 -> blow 4, or is it a draw 4 -> draw 4 super bend (over half a step almost down a whole step to the 4th e.g. C)? It's hard to tell but I feel like the draw 4 -> draw 4 bend -> draw 3 half -> draw 2 is a fairly common blues harp lick (while on other instruments it would typically be 5b -> 4 -> 3b -> 1, instead of what it ends up being on harmonica, e.g. 5 -> 5b -> 3b -> 1).
@t00manypuppies2 жыл бұрын
it sounds like a draw 4 into a full bend down to C but how the hell is he doing a full step bend on draw 4???

You would be looking for musicians who where recorded under the title Area Code 615. Nashville session men, went on to Barefoot Jerry. See Wayne Moss. Cinderella Sound in Nashville ( Pretty Woman ). Charlie McCoy was a big part of these bands. They also played on Dylan's Blonde on Blonde. These guys where cuttin' sounds back in the day. I still listen to there stuff regularly. They get you in the mood. Hot summer days in the backyard.

@@landztranz Huh, I've never played a country tuned harmonica. That raises the 5B note a half step, doesn't it? When I play along with my regular C harmonica, I hear the same 5B note that my harmonica has. Sure it has to be country tuned?
