Had the privilege of playing with Luther, along with a lot of other musician friends of mine. He was always a gentleman and a joy to play with if you like Blues like I do. He was as close to the real deal as i was ver gonna get. Him and Paul Butterfield. What a blast!

Luther gave me tons of time on his stage. He was as good as they come. Even tho I was just a unknown not even up and comer, he treated me like one of his peers. we became friends. Charlie let me play with him anytime I was at one of his gigs. A pure compliment considering I'm a harmonica player. Days long past. At least I have the memoirs. RIP Luther.

This just proves that with a vocal mic and good technique, you don't need bullet mics, etc.

This is a great old rare video. Luther didn't get the opportunity to be in videos very often and played bars and night clubs right up until his passing. Charlie has been around since the sixties and kind of followed Paul Butterfield, Mike Bloomfield and Elvij Bishop west from chicago. This might be in the sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties? Two great blues musicians for sure.

This is so cool - thanks for uploading this! I used to get my life music fix at places like Madison Square Garden or the Oakland Arena, Cow Palace, etc...but once I hit 21 and could get in, lol - I got a taste of seeing really great musicians playing in these small, intimate clubs, big venues became a thing of the past (unless it was a Grateful Dead concert, lol). I saw Charlie, mostly in San Francisco, but I knew him and Luther - tried to catch them whenever I could. Last time I saw Luther play was in the mid 80s, in Fairfax - my old man sat in with him. His death was such a shock - he was a such a nice guy, and missed by many...videos like this are so important, a lot of the old clubs are gone (like the Sleeping Lady Cafe ) along with the people who played them...so again, thank you for putting this online, at least here, people can see these two great musicians together ;)
