Speaking as a Former Alcoholic, cheap wine was a pretty standard go to when I'd drunk my pay away on cheap whiskey, Now 3 years sober I can say the underlying loneliness and depression I was trying to hide from won't go away if you let the booze do the feeling and thinking for a night, it's still there in the morning along with a hangover. I really love this song because its meaning has completely changed from when I was still drinking. As I'm sure it does to many others.

I was a bartender a long time ago. This song resonates with me, because after a while, I began to despise the regulars who came in day after day. Not who they were when they first arrived, but what they became after a few drinks. It wore me down and, unlike Charlie, I managed to get away. If I’d stayed any longer, I’d have become one of them.

The Brewhouse in Duluth would host Charlie Wednesday nights and serve $2 or $3 pints I can't remember it was 15-20 years ago. No cover. Charlie played in the corner, it was dark and peaceful. After a few hours the beer would be hitting and Charlie would have the whole place jumping, and stompin and dancing. Some of the best nights of my life. Maybe 40 people just dancing and drinking getting lost in the bliss of Charlie's steel slide guitar.

Definitely one of the best fingerstyle blues players(and fingerstyle players in general) of the modern age, Charlie Parr. He makes that guitar fuckin' jingle! I actually placed a bet down with a friend who's been a guitarist for 14 years that if he could play and sing this tune in a set amount of time, I'll comp a night of bourbon for him(and his tolerance is massive + the alcohol taxation here is ridiculous so that might be an expensive night).
