Polyphia have done a great job in infecting new generation of guitar player with their music. The sound, the phrase, and the spirit.
@matthewtetrick44755 жыл бұрын
It was not Polyphia. Most of these techniques and phrasings started with Zappa, Vai, and Al Di Meola. Prog bands are just now understanding why they make sense and how to use these techniques in their own musical compositions. Polyphia popularized fusion mixed with dive bombs and harmonics, and that's about it. Personally, bands like Caligula's Horse, and Twelve Foot Ninja revitalized the interest for me, and years before the prog/fusion scene lit up. Plini, Polyphia, Intervals, Animals As Leaders, Arch Echo, Owane; they all became popular in the metal world around the same time, have toured and jammed together, and are at the forefront of modern virtuoso, but they did not start the trend by any means. In fact, like myself, many of the musicians in the list above had not even touched an instrument, or were born yet, when Zappa and friends were breaking this new ground.
