Saw and met him at a dive bar during a private event right after the release of his first album. Cool dude and gone way too soon. Sunset Boulevard remains one of my favorite songs of all time. RIP Charlie

I just found out. OMG I'm beside myself. I can't believe he's gone. One of the best. A true Texas Trubador. I met him and the band long time ago after the show, we all sat and shared a few beers and laughs and great conversation. Thank you Charlie for those awesome memories and for what you brought to the music scene. May you RIP my friend.

Absolutely heartbroken!!! One of the all-time-greats has left the building. I first discovered Charlie back in 95, on a listening station at Waterloo Records, on a stop Austin. At the time, I worked for Hastings Music and when I got home, I went about contacting his indie label to get his & Bruce's stuff on consignment, at my store in Waco. A few months later, Charlie got booked at Waco's infamous Melody Ranch. When I got to the bar , I was disheartened to see only about 5 cars in the lot. It didnt get any better on the inside...Charlie and his band literally played to me , the bartenders and the shoeshine guy. After he played his last song, I went up and asked if he'd play this one, which he did gladly. When they finished, I bought him a beer and apologized for Waco's loss and obvious complete lack of taste. Would go watch him play often over the next few years and he was always a great dude! Wish I'd had the presence of mind to make the 30 minute ride down Ranch Road 12 to catch one of these shows....hindsight is a bitch. Godspeed Charlie!!!

There’s a lot more going on than the solo. The audience is watching him say goodbye, it’s so sad. RIP Charlie, your music got me through some rough times.

He's also knocking on 60. I still picture late 90s- early 2000s charlie when I think about him but time goes by, people age, gain weight, wrinkles, and grey hair but even with his vocal trouble, he seems to have recovered much of his voice and im glad to have him back!
