I absolutely loved Charlie Williams. When he laughed he made me laugh with him. He just seemed to enjoy making us all laugh - no swear words, no sexual innuendo, no dubious jokes. R. I. P. Charlie.

@@TheWacoKid1963 Hi TWK that's super! I really enjoyed watching those full interview clips. His dad was really cute and I think people probably were nicer in those early days. Charlie genuinely seemed a lovely guy. It's a shame I did not see this his. I might have put a clip of that in the video but never mind. Thank you ever so much for sending it. Best, Alan

Thanks for this one. It brings back some great memories for me. I grew up in the seventies so remember watching the comedians on tv with Charlie on it. I remember him as always being respectful and never rude, and who could forget that laugh. R.I.P. Charlie.

I loved Charlie Williams. I used to watch him on The Comedians in the 1970s. I was just a school boy then and this was a great show every Saturday night to watch. He also compered The Golden Shot on a Sunday for a short period of time. He had a great sense of humour, but was just not cut out for that job following Bob Monkhouse. Rip Charlie.

Charlie wasn't the only comedian who trading on being black and impersonating well-known white people. Sir Lenny Henry, no less, started in that very way! A fact he would no doubt like to forget. I remember him well and The Golden Shot was a disaster, as I remember from childhood. Things really peetered out for him after that and as television was the only mainstream medium at the time, that was that. Nevertheless and as you say, he had his niche!!
@KerryNicol-ow9cp Жыл бұрын
dont forget as Charlie was born to a white mother he was actually mixed race,NOT black. thats important because it means half his ancestry is white,there is a difference +its not good to ignore his white side .Even if he refers to himself as black,+i admit he looks quite dark in some(but not all) photos, hes not!
@MotorHomeBeepBeep Жыл бұрын
I knew all about it. Is mother being white but the point with this gentleman was he made his humour from his colour and that is what people identified him with. He made a film with his father or was a fabulous nice guy who would work very hard down the coal mines. You could see that he had so much respect for his father. In my book people of People that's it.

Charlie did so many great and wonderful things a man of so many talents, Footballer singer comic! and instead of focusing on those you bring in negative things! he was funny being a blackman with a Yorkshire accent! was not good on the golden shot! HE was great he was on it for 5 years! Max Bygraves was on it for 2 weeks! I don't think he would have appreciate you negative view of him!

Hello Jackie, unfortunately you got it wrong. Charlie Williams was only on The golden shot. Like I said on the video from the back end of 73 to 74 but I wasn't being negative about him. I was putting the humour into its perspective because It wouldn't be funny today. I was very respectful to him because he was a lovely man and so was his father who worked down the pit. Even said himself that the golden shot didn't work well for him. In the biography I highlighted all is achievements. I like to help these people's memory alive who give us entertainment. Try yourself one day 😜
