After missing his flight home from Sitka, Alaska, Charlie Berens gets a job on a fishing boat for the summer to make enough money to buy a new plane ticket home. Charlie relies heavily on his experience of catching walleye, bass, and perch back home on the lakes of Wisconsin but might be out of his depth when ocean fishing for King Salmon in Alaska.

This is awesome! I was a deckhand for Skipper Eric back in my college days. I had zero experience and easily got seasick. I think the only reason he took me was I was good friends with his sons. After a week of getting sick my equilibrium reset to a steady sway and I felt better. Easily the hardest job I have ever had, 5am to 10pm every day when we were on the water. We would come back to town ever few days or so to sell. But if you weren’t fishing you weren’t making any money. Charlie, you picked the right guy to take you out. Eric is a class act and a patient teacher.

Well what a coincidence, I’m a Wisconsinite and I’m in Alaska right now on vacation. I was in Juneau last year and this year I’m in Homer. Caught halibut in Juneau and this Saturday I’ll be going for halibut, rockfish, and king salmon!

I immediately recognized the volcano in the background - Mount Edgecumbe. Look up Mount Edgecumbe April fools prank for a good laugh. One of the most legendary April fools pranks of all time! I fly up to Sitka occasionally for work. Beautiful area. Love the videos Charlie! Used to live in the Midwest too and get a good laugh. We don't actually speak like that in WI - the tone of voice esp. , is exaggerated quite a bit from what - usually the older folks , esp. in Norwegian-heavy areas - sound like . In my experience anyways. If the younger ones do it, it's on purpose or our of habit from doing it on purpose. Not to mock anyone, but to celebrate anything unique and homey about our home. I'm in western WI, Dunn co. , and don't "get out " a lot tho, never have. So, this is very much just my experience.
