Think how the cities would look if we had the right kind of education... a Wall Street level business education. Buy for a nickle, sell for a dime, minimize the overhead to 3 cents...the 2 cents left over representing a 40% pre-tax return on the investment of the original nickel...increase the velocity, fast turnover...then you could afford to buy property and dress it up and charge rent for it, or just put it on the market for sale. The property wouldn't sit idle long enough to rot. We'd run out of properties and have to expand...invade other neighborhoods economically like they do in Israel.

Homewood neighborhood on the east side of Pittsburgh. As you can tell by the size of some of the houses, this was once a very affluent area. Now it is extremely impoverished and one of the most violent sections of the city. Not as bad as it was in the 90’s though
@frank-xp6pj

nothing is close to the hoods of the 90's.....cant even compare the two.....crime today in all cities is almost nonexistent compared to the 90's, crime will never be completely stopped BUT compared to the 90's it's down so low that it's safe despite how some areas look, in the 80's & 90's you could not walk or drive thru certain neighborhoods if you were not from there.

@@elvagabundoilegal2868 It's funny, I lived in Massachusetts for a long time and i never saw that. Everyone parked near the curb. In Europe, people will park any place where they can find as long as they don't block the entire road. In a narrow street, they park on both sides where two cars in opposite directions can't pass through. It's extremely annoying and inconvenient.

@@hisdness1 Well, you can't blame narrow streets really, since these are part of history. In where I live, parking on a sidewalk is almost non-existant. In Europe however, it's either you drive on narrow streets with a small car or you're bike/public transit-dependent

Pittsburgh was once a great looking city and now the blighted neighborhoods, garbage and abandoned houses that need torn down are a fixture in these hoods. The people that are responsible for doing something about this doesn't care, they want afro americans to live in poverty while they build the parts of the city to make people from out of town move here, but they don't see the real Pittsburgh until they live here for a while or something bad happens to them. Pittsburgh was always a beautiful city, when they took away the projects, and people were spread all over they didn't foresee people moving away and giving up their businesses and their homes to leave or relocate leaving the used to be prominent neighborhoods to be neglected so that crime and poverty would prevail. Pittsburgh, do better!

2:13 There is a house on the right corner. I lived there in my middle school years. Early 00's. That's nuts. I know the video is 5yrs old now but I do wonder what the place is like these days. Quick edit, you even drove super close to my old Elementary school that closed down years back. Around the 5 minute mark my aunt lived up that way and one of the side streets my best bud lived there while we were children. The 5 minute and 17 second mark was the old CAPA before it moved down town and it's another form of education building these days. And near that was a park I went to a whole lot as a child. This is bringing back SO many memories. Good and bad.

As a child I lived in Sheraden, a suburb of Pittsburgh. My Grandparents' home was built in 1911 like a lot of homes in this video. Most of the houses shown are solid. They are not falling apart; they are being destroyed. Neighborhoods that used to be vibrant with kids playing in the streets are silent now. No A/C back then so on summer nights people sat on their porches and listened to Bob Prince, the Voice of the Bucs" convey every swing of Pirates baseball. Everyone yelled across the street or next door in conversation. What's different now? Not so many families, not so many kids. It's not an ethnicity problem. It's the end result of Leftist failed government policies. And we just voted for more of the same. Orémus Y'all.

Part of what makes parts of Pittsburgh so unattractive is that at some point they went out of their way to make the houses as ugly as possible. That shitty vinyl awning thing on the windows and the nastiest fake brick (asbestos?) siding ever invented. Wouldn't look half as forlorn with some clean aluminum siding and a touch of TLC.
