I was born there in 1951. When grew up in the 50s and 60s it was a safe, clean, thriving, happy town. No more, it is unrecognizable. Only a handful of businesses, no jobs, crime, and rundown neighborhoods. So sad, I have great memories of that place .

I grew up visiting my grandmother and other relatives in and outside of Yazoo City during the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s. It was a thriving city with beautiful old houses that were well kept and a safe place to be no matter what part of the city. My grandmother passed away and is buried there. My mom(who grew up there) wanted to visit 20 years ago and couldn’t believe how it has ran down. Seeing the videos now tells me this is definitely not the same city. My good memories of this city are just memories. I hope the people of this city and politicians will help bring companies back and Yazoo will survive.

Looks like a really beautiful town! I’m from Montana and have never been to the SouthEast; I’m just shocked how lush, verdant, and green everything is. Must get a lot of rain! Here we average 6 inches of precipitation a year. I hear it’s so humid you can feel wetness in the air. Would be cool to experience. I love blues music and like watching videos of towns I’ve only heard about in songs!

I am from Benton about a couple of miles from Yazoo City. Majority of my family were from Yazoo, Benton, and Vaughns.I went to the military as soon as I graduated high school. It was very nice and quiet back then I graduated in 1998. I heard its like any other place now the violence is crazy now. But I was stationed in Great Falls , MT. Malstrom AFB. I loved it nice and peaceful.

I’ve been here, like so many of the smaller cities & towns the well maintained homes sit side by side with the not so well maintained. There is so much poverty here & even if there were zoning laws & many do not have these too many folks could not afford to make needed repairs to bring property up too code. What is striking is the lush greenery surrounding even the humblest abode.

Mississippi, the state, has much potential. It'll never see it with the current population, though.
@wrestlerx8494
@wrestlerx8494 2 жыл бұрын
@@ericjade I live in southern Maryland and there are so many low income people here (including me), but the reason we are in poverty for the most part is NOT because we are not trying to get ahead, but that everything is so expensive that people who are low income can't even AFFORD to get ahead. I have a bachelors degree in communications which I received in 2008, but due to the recession I literally could not get a decent job so after 2 years I took a part time minimum wage job at a thrift store (by then I needed the money). I had to leave that job in 2015 because I was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma in stage 3 at only 27 and I needed treatment ASAP. But then I still couldn't get a decent job after that, so I just continued to be one of many people living in poverty, among many other people who are well off and have money. But everything caters to those people so housing is expensive and they have building codes and you need a permit to do so many things. I WISH it was the same here where we didn't have to worry about those codes if it's like that in Mississippi. I wish there were even SOME cheap houses here, but everything is so expensive and we can't buy a house for nothing. My in laws don't want us to move out of the state either because my husband got hurt in a fire accident last year and now he can't use his hands or drive. He was in the hospital for 5 months.
@ericjade

@@wrestlerx8494 Well, dang. Don't know what to say. 🙂 You've certainly brought another perspective. But, sadly I've know from personal experience the south is down because of the people living there. Like take all the people from a good thriving city and put them in the worst Mississippi city. Then take all the people from the Mississippi city and put them in the thriving city. In time the worst city would be thriving and the thriving one will go to the dumps.

What’s truly sad is that all these hoods look the same meaning that our resources to build and upgrade is no where in site. The older people enjoyed the true beauty of these “Hoods” but as of modern times this is nothing to glorify my opinion. We like nice things and would like to upgrade those homes and retail stores but it’s plagued with “hip hop” & ignorance. Brother I thank you for doing a awesome job but you see it for yourself those hoods are declining so bad it’s embarrassing sometimes we deserve better

You know it is a small southern town because there are no sidewalks. Why is that? Is it too expensive to put them in. You have to walk in the street, to walk around. That creates a problem of safety particularly at night. The poverty is pretty noticeable. Very good and clear video. Two thumbs up.

Last time I was in these hoods was in 1989 and damn if they don’t look exactly the same. It’s a g.d. tragedy that US politicians of both parties would likely think this was filmed in some third world country. I bet a former President who shall remain nameless, but who is supported by this state, has never spent a nanosecond in neighborhoods like this. He’d probably watch this and think it was some sort of video game. 🤬

Funny unlike every politician in office, that president you are talking about made his money before politics, he lost money during his time in office, and he didn’t take a paycheck either, he put all Americans first, he tried to create jobs, keep taxes low, keep people working, he kept gas and food prices affordable. Washington DC hated him because he disrupted their backroom deals, and the media spent four years bashing him so easily led people would believe it the fake news 🙄

The state of Mississippi is definitely the bottom of America ! Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮♥️🇺🇲🔥

It shouldn't be in America. Maybe a third world country would better suit that place.

@@hoopty. And imagine a country that is almost in the center of the country ! And who recognizes his sovereignty ? Well , even more so , it will still depend on the USA as San Marino !

@@blxxxdandwine1525 ok but you said Mississippi is the bottom of America..... Right??? Even Finland has its bottoms as well. It just your country is not talked about. No one is running to move to Finland. I would move to Finland because of the beautiful model " Snow Bunnies" that your country has.
