The work here is done at a much faster rate because the contractors here are a bunch of greedy fucks. I make 25 an hour which is fucking absurd. I was up in Iowa last year and made 45 per hour plus benefits union. We also have to compete with the Mexican bricklayers who are willing to work very cheap. The trade has really gone to shit here If I wasn't married to a Texas girl I would haul ass up north or on the East coast. Bricklayers in Boston make 50 dollars per hour and don't have to work in the 100 degree heat. If you're a brickmason don't come to Texas.

The answer is simples Charlie boi...put him on a percentage. I did it for decades. He does the loading, the spreading, the jointing, cuts the pieces for the brick/block pillars etc....he gets faster spreading and jointing, he does the labouring which is nothing nowadays. Then he lays to the line with you. The faster he does all the other stuff the more he gets to lay and learn. Give him a decent percentage and if he's got work ethic he will learn AND earn. If it doesn't work out he needs to go. If he's a grafter it'll work. But don't be shy with the dollar and it'll earn you😉

Personally think you’ve mugged Liam off here made him look like he’s just wanting more money already. Perhaps he needs needs to earn the hoddy rate you are paying to pay for his digs or whatever. I don’t see the issue with wanting to do more days on the hod and earn more money short term. Leave him do that everyone’s just seeing it from your eyes
@skaterguy523 жыл бұрын
I don’t think he’s mugged him off. Charlie has agreed to be flexible and make it work for Liam so Liam can make the money he wants/needs. Not many bosses out there willing to compromise and work with their staff to keep them happy these days. I think that’s a sign of a good boss. He’s changed arrangements to help out his staff. I’m sure plenty of other bosses would just tell him to like it or lump it
@coreyf31753 жыл бұрын
That’s fair enough it’s your opinion, but like what’s the need to mention him doing 4 days hod and 1 days apprentice on the video I think it portrays Liam as greedy? Like just let the viewers know he wants to do 4 on the hod and 1 on the trowel end of it. Also at the end of the video he mentions it again say to Harry that’s it’s gonna be better for him pretty much throwing small digs in when he’s sent Liam to another plot?
@skaterguy523 жыл бұрын
@@coreyf3175 the guy gives us decent content for free everyday and it’s a building site, most bosses in construction would just tell you to fuck off. The videos are real life not watching what he says. That’s what I like about it and I’d be pissed off if I was willing to take the hit to train someone and they weren’t jumping at the chance. I think he pays a lot better than most aswell and he doesn’t Chuck bricks and stuff at apprentices. I’m a chippy and have worked with some absolute nutters I think he’s pretty reserved and I’m sure Liam can handle a bit if Criticism as they are all big boys. Just my 2 cents
@coreyf31753 жыл бұрын
Mate your 2 cents are worth more than John from Stoke who comments telling Charlie he should be paying him £3.77 like he got paid back in his day 🤣 of course we all enjoy the content, my only thing is I don’t see why there’s an issue with the kid wanting to earn more money short term rather than long term, maybe he doesn’t want to learn and just earn a hods rate, perhaps in 5 years time if Harry’s qualified, then Liam will probably regret it but as you said he’s a big boy. Also isn’t Liam from Leicester? I’d like to know where he’s staying if he’s renting his own place or if he’s got family in the area cause if he’s renting I could definitely understand why he’s doing the 4 days hoddying
@skaterguy523 жыл бұрын
@@coreyf3175 here’s an analogy that might make my point less long winded. No offence but teaching landscaping compared to teaching bricklaying is another kettle fish mate. If someone learning to laying bricks can lay around 50 bricks a day which is about what they will lay. that’s 25£ plus there part towards a hod carrier at 40£ quid puts them in -£15 a day. Plus all the time the person teaching them is losing stop starting. It costs a bomb for someone to teach a beginner. So let’s say your paying someone 65. If there laying 50 bricks a day they’ve made £25 take there £40 towards the hod carrier they have to cover towards. That puts them at -£65 because they haven’t covered there wages let alone part of the hoddys. Then take into consideration the amount there stopping the bricky to teach them. Why do you think aprrentices start on 25 a day
