Nice idea with the steel banding, but for better use of its strength would be running it along the centre of the top box bottoms with it epoxied into a lengthwise groove. This would reduce the length of the effective cantilever and increase its effectiveness. Enjoying the series been interesting to watch
@CharlieDIYte4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Ritchie. I'm running it flat along both the front of the carcasses (with the facias routed to accommodate it) thereby maximising it's strength as the sag will be going into the 30mm not the 3mm if that's what you mean?

hi charlie great project but is it worth the time and effort trying to hide the sensors with those wedges the sensor looks great as it is and it is designed for the job .
@CharlieDIYte4 жыл бұрын
For me, the sensors look better hidden. I'm going for a dark paint scheme, so the silver cylinder would really stand out, and the unknown is whether the adhesive would fail in time leaving you with a bit of a fiddly problem. I think they look much better recessed (in the overlay door application) so that's why I've done the wedges although I agree, you could argue the wedges look more obtrusive than the sensor itself!! Shouldn't though when it's all painted.

Great insights thanks for sharing! Just a warning, I tried to make the same cyclone and bucket combo and mine collapsed, in the same way Matt’s did from Badger Workshop. He managed to sort his out and put a wooden ring in the middle to stop it doing it again. I couldn’t get mine to pull out again and had to chuck the bucket sadly. I bought a cheap ash bucket instead that does the same thing and it works great. Good luck with the rest of the build!

Great vid. Word of warning for plunge saw is a lot of the cheap ones are based on scheppach pl55 and although cut down on dust there are numerous mod videos to improve it as they still put out a fair bit. Should be a lot less than than your circular though. Word of warning from experience check the riving knife on the plunge saw as was a point of failure on mine. It would loosen and move stopping your cut as it would not match the line of the blade and catch on my work piece.

Amazing light system. Great tips. I'm looking to rebuild my built in wardrobes as they have been here for over 20 years now and the contruction of the ones i have weren't quiet sturdy. But looking at mine while watching the video I've noticed mine has like an extra plank at the front inside the carcass to make it look maybe better framed if i can phase it as such. So I feel an even simpler or well beginner friendly way to add lights if you would like to do so is maybe adding a plank inside infront of the wardrobe carcass with the front being a flush 90° and the inside more like a 45° angle and then placing your light strip on that so its shining onto your items in the wardrobe instead of your eyes like you said. But the grooves you added is a nice addition if you maybe adding shelving and want each individual shelf to have a light beneath to light when you open the wardrobe. Just an idea i wanted to share for maybe a more beginner thats not really supplied with tuns of different tools they have on hand to use if its not an everyday type of tool or not so big diy person but would need to build something like a cubourt. Thanks for sharing all the useful advice, I feel myself and alot of people really appreciate it. It can be simple once you got your information and thats why youtube is one of the best apps ever made you can learn litterly anything on here if you put your mind to it

That's bizarre. I wonder how long the site will be down. Another good video. I bought an Aldi track saw following Peter Millards review, and I am quite please with it. It cuts straight and true, the biggest issue for me is the 2 x 700 pieces of track which you have to join together. I have also found it difficult to buy a longer track, but as I do not use it often enough to be that concerned. I am not sure that your steel band idea will work. Think about how it sags when you hold, say 1m out, but again you may have a cunning plan!

Hi Charlie, fantastic video as always just wanted to ask will you be reviewing your plunge saw and dust extraction any where in the future ? Do you think it's good idea to go with titan vacuum plus dust extraction system 😀👍thank you
@CharlieDIYte4 жыл бұрын
Yes I certainly will. That Titan is ok only as a shop vac, but in this context it's perfectly capable, so for the price I'd definitely recommend it Did you see this vid kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYjPiYKoo7-jppY . Worth taking through the comments because there were some great recommendations in there. The cyclone will be useful I think because I've always been a fan of using bags with the vac, and with the cyclone I should be able to dispense with the bag - which fits SO BADLY it's as if they didn't want you to use one with it. Maybe they've sorted the design in the new one... If however you're wanting to use it in the house as well, get one of the new Henry XLs

Hi Charlie, do your light strips light up individually for each open wardrobe section, or do all the light strips light up at the same time regardless of which door you open. Just trying to visualise the wiring and what I need to purchase. Many thanks, extremely helpful and clear videos 👍
@CharlieDIYte3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ged, they light up individually. It's worth watching video 4 and 6 to see how it came together. Basically each wardrobe has a terminal that is connected, (to supply it with power) via a long cable to the main driver above wardrobe 1, that links the sensor switch to the circuit and then you can plug up to 5 individual light strips to that terminal. The central wardrobe for example has two lights, one vertical to light up each shelf.

I think all things considered the overall cost Inc labour is the equivalent of paying for for someone else to do it anyway. Though I do understand the satisfaction and knowledge achieved from it it your self

Charlie I am starting my wardrobe project but I have a question. How are you going to paint your wardrobe when fitted?Roller or airless paint sprayer,because will be not so easy in far corners etc? I would rather to do same as you,build first and paint later,please advise.Thank you
@CharlieDIYte4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm going to prime the carcasses shortly, with Zinsser BIN. I'll use a mini roller, synthetic sleeve and a paint brush to get in the corners. Too messy to spray paint in situ.

Hi Charlie, do you have a link to those angle brackets you used to connect the carcass to the wall on top? Thanks! Great job on this btw!

How do you find the ryobi tools?
@CharlieDIYte2 жыл бұрын
They're good value for money - not so much as they used to be as they're more expensive these days but they still hold their own. Builders etc are quite snobbish about them but I've never had one fail on me - well, maybe a combi drill which has lost its clutch after years of heavy use but what's been great over the years is their commitment to keeping the battery system so I started my collection way back in 2010 when NiCad batteries were the standard and lithium batteries still work on those original tools.

Hey Charlie, I've taken alot of inspiration from your videos so thanks for the content 😊 ide like to ask about drawers, like yourself I'm in the middle of doing a built in wardrobe for my daughters , I'm putting in 6 drawers and wanted your opinion on material. Drawers from mdf or ply? The fronts will be mdf, I made the doors 600 x 1500 and used the faker shaker style in 1 of your vids and I must say it came out perfect. Oh the drawers will be 570 ish square and 280 deep. Cheers mate 👍

I've heard silicone can stop the sagging issue, works on other things anyway :-)

With the lighting at the top, would that only benefit the shelves at the top of the units, rather than having it run down the side so all shelves get light? Looks great though, you look like you’re enjoying the experience, as am I following it!
@CharlieDIYte4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Robin 👍🏻 You raise a very good point there. I only have one cupboard (the one in the middle) that has shelves. I'll probably set them back a bit so that each shelf gets the light. I though about lights down the side to help with this but as it's the only wardrobe where they'll be necessary I thought it might look unbalanced. I'm sure a lot of people would agree with you though that in situations with shelves lighting down the side is the way to go.

Hi Charlie. I'm just tackling my first MDF build (some built in shelving for the Wife's salon). I'm just putting all the pieces together for the first time as a dry fit. Just wondering on final fit, do you glue and screw or do you find the screws are enough? Cheers.
@CharlieDIYte2 жыл бұрын
It's a really good question that Matt. Bottom line you don't need the glue and the danger is with sods law you often have to take it apart to fine tune. If you know you've got everything right though it'll make for a much stronger joint and particularly with them being weight bearing it's probably worth you gluing the joints to prevent anything moving.
@Matto2162 жыл бұрын
@@CharlieDIYte Thanks for the advice Charlie. I decided just to screw together in the end. There was a little bit of jiggery pokery to get everything lined up and fitting right as it's fitted within an existing door frame which isn't plumb. Plus the premises are rented so if we need to move out, it can be dismantled easier. Have a good weekend mate 👍🏻
