I can’ t stress enough how much this concept has helped me understand the contribution of form in trumpet playing lately (paired with all the other quality content Charlie has in his KZbin channel). I’m getting emotional thinking about how many years are passing and how I still periodically come back here with more experience and thus more ability to apply and interiorize Charlie’s incredible teaching. There is value in coming back, in giving it more chances, in considering that if an idea doesn’t seem to work you could just not be ready to apply it yet (for whatever reason).

I took lessons from Roy Roman, jerome Callet (in NYC and bought his first horn model), George Rawlins, Pops McClintock, Panzarella, Durk Collman, Kurt Thompson (16 week course) and one hour with Arturo Sandoval, but you taught me more than them all. I have been playing incorrectly since high school (i am 65 years old now). Thanks for your giving attitude and thanks for showing me what is the correct size aperture and how to use it. After you aperture video my playing is 100 percent better..

Who wasn't? My band director,from the fifth through seventh grade,was primarily a reed man.All the books I collected taught the "smile" system that was taught by Arban.I still swear by Louis Maggio's method which I studied in 1971 when I was a music major here in Coos Bay,Oregon from 1970 to '72.

I perused Callet's method back in late 1970.In the back of his book,he had ads for his trumpet.They sold for $450 which was just a few dollars more than a new 1970 Olds Opera.

Awesome! Coming back to the cornet after a 20 year hiatus. Basically quit when I was 15 because my embouche and technique was so bad and teachers never addressed it. I used pressure for range which caused pain after awhile. I still have a long way to go but its so nice squeking out high notes pain free knowing how its properly done. Thanks Charlie!

Excellent video, Charlie! As always, you give great advice and have figured out much about how to tame the wild beast we call the trumpet! You not only play like a trumpet maestro, but you do much to dispel the adage "Those that can play, can't teach!" Your explanations are spot on and easy to understand from both a linguistic and visual standpoint. I find myself, a fairly accomplished player at 63 years young with a decent reputation, still learning new things from you or rediscovering things I learned from some excellent teachers I had in the past and forgotten. The results are almost immediately noticeable and my efficiency is improving, I even gained a few clicks in my single tonguing speed with better accuracy, which is deeply. appreciated. Hello Mr. Porter, I actually play the french horn but I was wondering if it is possible to do the whisper tones on the french horn. Also, the embouchure video literally fixed most of my problems and allowed me to play in the high register with more ease and edurance!

This is like doing a deep clean on one's technique! I found I was pinching early in my register, in the lower middle register! I have found that practicing whisper tones tells me when there is crackle in my sound, telling me my lips are too close together and helping focus on my support. My overblowing hid all this, but it would also explain why I haven't really had much flexibility or ability to get above a high C!

That is because the laziness of the embouchure setup. The lips should be held properly in place without free moving or collapse.😁
