This game will make for an interesting series as you progress through various levels and get the points to unlock new things. Then once you have beaten all the levels on normal, you can play them again on hard conditions and see how you fare.

the power line overlay is really good and give us viewers more information. I would love to see it all the time :) thanks for the videos

So, quick calculation to give a fair comparison to gas vs dam: Assuming the same length of power lines, The natural gas plant costs $70.000 to provide 100 MWh at $7 per MWh. That gives it a running cost of $700 per hour, or $16.800 per day at full capacity. On top of that, fixed costs of $1400 per day, giving a total daily cost of $18.200 The natural dam costs $105.000 to provide 60 MWh. To compare fairly to the gas plant: 100 MWh would cost a (theoretical) $175.000. But, the running costs are only $4.00 per MWh with a stable output, meaning no extra storage is needed unlike solar. At a (theoretical) output of 100 MWh, the running costs are $400 per hour, or $9600 per day at full capacity. The fixed costs are $480 per day, giving a total daily cost of $10.080 per day. This means that at full capacity, the dam saves $8020 per day. At lower capacity, the relative savings are even higher, since the daily costs start to factor in more. To put that in perspective: The dam requires $105.000 extra investment, but saves $8020 daily. The dam will therefore repay its increased investment in 13.1 days at full capacity, relative to the gas plant. After that, its all gravy. I have a strong feeling that the intention of this scenario is to start with a dam and build up more dams from there.

Furthermore, I think it would be smart to go for coal if there is room. Gas has the same cost as coal to make, and an extra 10 NIMBY radius is solved by $5.000 worth of high voltage cabling. So you effectively save $5.000 and get 60 extra MWh. Untill they add carbon tax in the game, coal is always superior untill it is becoming too crowded. Which for a 50 day scenario is unlikely to happen.

Lastly, I am a big fan of the game and these series. I love easy to learn, hard to master games like this.

Coal also costs about $1000 extra per day in fixed costs compared to gas... at the beginning of the game when you have a lot less income, that's really hard to overcome to prepare to spread to the next city. Coal was the first thing I tried in sandbox, and I simply couldn't expand for the next city fast enough. My profits were vanishing with coal. Great breakdown! Thanks!

@@CharliePryor ah, you are very right. I completely overlooked the daily cost for coal.

Wait hold up. This is a quick calculation? lol

The reason why you cant place the coal, gas etc. plants away from water: "This building needs to be placed close to a water source, for cooling and steam generation" It has nothing to do with the cities.

Yeah that's expressed later

This is going to be a great series . I have this game on my wishlist and it's on sale I guess I'll be picking this one up for sure.

Hm. I do like this but I see some misconceptions. The hydro for example, increase how much that corner of town contributed to the grid, causing the overload. By just cutting it off, you effectively stopped using the hydro dam entirely, that small down will barely use it even at peak hours.

Another episode already. Nice

It is interesting to see how your thought process is when designing or redesigning the power infrastructure.

I like the powerline overlay. I think you should use that mode.

I think it only allows you to place stations in certain areas due to optimal efficiency. I think natural gas can only be placed along the water for import purposes.
@bigchiefcwich83072 жыл бұрын
Yes that is the case, as it says in the mettle of the screen when he places it. I do not actually know why he thinks it has to do with the city placements. Really its cuz of the cooling for the plant is water... yea idk:/ edit: still like the series tho

Not really. Their load is based on the amount of power low-voltage wires are drawing out. High-voltage power passing through do not count as load. The only exception to this is Switching Station, which behaves as you described.
