John Barr is definitely an innovative tyer. Great tutorial, Charlie. ...and thanks for sharing that "pro tip" of keeping those spooled materials loose. That'll come in handy the next time I want to deal with a bird's nest!

I am a bit visually impaired. If you tied against a White background that gave a better contrast and help tyers like me to see what you are doing, better. Black thread, black background and dark brown biots are a bit tough.

I’ve seen your method for biots and it’s ingenious, however I seem to struggle mastering it. My main issue is trying to tilt them a quarter turn towards me and keep them oriented with each other. With them sitting on top it’s good as soon as I tilt them towards me a 1/4 turn they seem to want to twist on the contact point where they are not parallel to each other, if that makes sense. Any tips?

I started fly fishing in (23) and started tying about 3 weeks later in the 1st week of may. I like your videos and you don't want people asking questions? So how do I learn if I don't understand? I guess you have a secret broken feather magnet off screen which is how you separate them so fast huh??? Oops sorry forgot you like it QUIET 🤫🤐. Go let your wire spool unravel Mr pro....... Thanks for the clip sir, I'm definitely learning a lot from your tips..... like not letting spools unravel. Keep them coming

I’ve noticed black thin skin or thin skin in general has a side that is fluorescent and a side that isn’t. Which side to you recommend facing up. Or does it even make a difference? Love your videos! Big fan!

I always struggled with setting the biots. Many of the patterns have them stacked one on top of the other and it's so hard to get them splayed properly. Half my time on the fly would be spent just fussing with them. I like your method, I think you demonstrated it on a previous tie. I tied up a couple of thin mints and then on the best one forgot to add the tinsel. I did one with Orange/Chartreuse/Yellow with chartreuse body and chartreuse grizzly hackle. I figure the trout might attack it just to drive it away. I always wondered where the biots actually were on the goose/turkey.

They come from the primary feathers on the wing. When they sell them as just biots they split the quill to make the strip we're all familiar with.

@@CharliesFlyBox I have used turkey tail and or pheasant tail fibers on mine because the UV resin has something to grab hold of and does not pop off as it will some times do with thin skin and other synthetics.
