My current theory is Lucy met, fell in love with, and formed a secret engagement with Lennox, which they consummated before he went off to war (not meeting societal expectations). Lucy soon after meets interested and eligible Coulbourne. She is pressured into marrying him. When Leo is born way before she should be Society shuns her and Colbourne feeling deeply betrayed pushes her away. The combined misery of being separated from Lennox, hated by her husband, and shunned by society caused her to commit suicide. Colbourne is angry at his wife both also feels responsible for her death.

Especially since she is dark blonde and so is Lennox and both Lucy and Coulbourne have darker hair. Considering Coulbourne's reaction to Lennox being acquainted with Charlotte and the way Lennox goads Coulbourne, I'd be willing to bet he had an affair or some type of relationship with Lucy. Maybe she met him visiting London and that is why she kept going there to visit her sister. It seems like Coulbourne has some type of guilt regarding her, like he was unable to make her happy and that is why everyone is better off not knowing him. We shall see!

Well this may turn out to a very nice period drama, but it has nothing to do with Jane Austen, and I defy anyone to say otherwise. I think that this drama should be entitled, ‘The Adventures of Charlotte Heywood’. For those who are ignorant of Jane Austen’s novels, they all have a beginning, an end, and stuff in between. From the first chapter one knows who the protagonists are and in the last chapter, they get married. Sanditon had the opportunity to do this but Davies et al thought otherwise and spoilt the seventh novel of Jane Austen. He had the honour to finish it as she would have done, but he didn’t , shame on him.
@stephenmorse88112 жыл бұрын
It is fairly certain that a Season 2 was planned, hence the first season ending with a 'cliff hanger'. It was ITV who failed to sanction Season 2, not the producers or writers. Be thankful that it has been resurrected. The thing with Jane Austen's Sanditon is that it DIDN'T have an end (or a middle) and so no one is spoiling a narrative because one didn't exist. I'm just exceedingly thankful that we have this new 'adventure' to enjoy.

It’s predictable : Colbourne returns, realising what he’s lost ( in losing Charlotte) but has to contend with Ralph now.
