The buck was the only way the horse could communicate to his rider that he was not comfortable in that position. He had become a bit too closed and behind the bridle, and lost his balance. So the rider patiently resumed the training in a more forward manner, which helped the horse to find his balance and "comfort zone," again, even if he was a bit on the forehand. That will gradually improve as he becomes stronger, and more comfortable with the movement. True of anything in which one strives for excellence, or to reach the next level, we have to push the envelope a bit. This is not abusive.

I see so many top riders on the horse actually moving forward in the Piaffe, as if its a small Passage. Piaffe is supposed to be stationary! It's even done in FEI and Olympics. How is that acceptable?

As a horse learns they have to teach them while moving forward.. horses can't just stop the forward movement and bounce on the spot.. the forward tendency is correct as the horse remains in front of the rider's leg, and as it gets stronger and more educated in its training, it becomes more and more stationary. The forward moving ones don't pull a 10, of course, but it's accepted as horses learn the correct way of going

Unfournatley many riders think that it is a big problem for the horses to learn the passage in a correct way if they work the piaffe as a "really" piaffe and not as a kind of passage. But this ist not true- it takes only time- and this is the most problem for the riders today.

How can so many people say that you are not allowed to judge a gold medalist rider. That's so stupid, you are allowed of course. Gold medal doesn't include good riding or not. (I don't relate her but in general). The problem of a gold medalist who rides bad is mostly the judges in the ring because normally he or she should not win, but modern riding and judging is too shy to stand up and say this is bad what you are doing, because of the name and the prominence of the rider in the ring. Of corse you have to justify why you say something is bad if you judge but it's not wrong at all and also not if it's a famous rider. And there are many many famous riders who ride a terrible piaff and they are not judged correctly of the judges in the ring, mostly because the judges don't know how it's done right.

watch/listen some clinics of Robert Dover, the speaker/trainer here, when he says you must feel the piaff/passage in the walk, but i think you wont understand, so work on your true collected walk first before you give any comment of how to sit a horse

The horse is just learning! Not all is the perfect overall picture, yet. When it is more developed, the horse, with correct training as with this rider, will eventually build up its muscles and find its balance!!!

Suzanne Dansby He is not strong enough in his thoracic sling to lift his forehand. He has no elevation in front, he’s just walking His buck was in protest against being over loaded. He’s a very generous horse. She is under some pressure due to having to perform in public so I feel sorry for her but nevertheless she should respect the horse. The horse needs a lot mor upward transitions and reinback and schaukel. Then he will have a chance
