Thank you for talking about the Charlotte case, it needs to be talked about. I don’t know who has it in their heart to abuse horses. She didn’t mean that apology, at least I think, because she abused so easily. She just tried to salvage her reputation.

Right on; It doesn't matter about the timing of this, abuse is abuse. She was so comfortable with that behaviour that it was clearly typical of her so she can't claim it was not her style. I was so distressed to see that film, both by the confusion and fear in the horse, and by the self-entitled viciousness of that lady. But what has stuck with me is the the person behind the camera who was laughing at the abuse the whole way through. Laughing. They seemed so satisfied to see that pain inflicted. I found that really really disturbing.

Dressage has spiraled out of control over the last 20 years. It is stiff, too exaggerated, forced, and it has become ultra elitist. Change has to happen.

So many horses are taught just to get their head down and not actually taught how to use the whole body to create a shape that not only looks good but actually serves them and creates ride ability. Sounds like you’re doing an amazing job!

Let’s face it: there are many outside of the horse world whose only exposure to dressage or equestrian events is the Olympics, and the only names they know are the big names that participate in the Olympics. News about this atrocity during such a high-profile event will get more eyes on what happens behind the scenes of some dressage trainers, and hopefully the collective outrage both from inside and outside the sport will drive change. Horses need protection from such abuses, and the only way they’ll get more protections (and regulation) is if these things are brought to everyone’s attention.

My main fear is that horse abuse in high-end competition has been ignored and accepted for so long, that this won't make a difference in the end. Horse abuse with a whip is very easy to spot and now (finally) will be punished. But trainers can do even more damage to horses with spurs, or harsher bits, and it'll be far more difficult to see on a video. In fact, blue tongues and aggresive spur usage has been blatantly ignored for years. So, what if this (highly justified) disqualification of Dujardin only leads to more abuse at the end of spurs and bits instead of whips?

“That’s how you teach a horse to passage” I’ve watched my trainer cue her mustang to passage, even piaffe with nothing but a halter and lunge line, and cues her by moving her body upwards. You teach a horse to passage by teaching them how to engage their core and collect, whipping the crap out of their legs is NOT a piaffe, that’s a prance. So much of what you see in modern dressage is not an actual piaffe or extended trot, it is instead a flashier, “easier” version of it to appeal to a larger audience

the way i see it that abuse is abuse theres no " oh it was just a one off " or " i didnt meant to " because the effect is still there the horse the victim still suffers regardless i remember 2 years ago when my parents found a pony dumped on the road i remeder how a simple pat would cause her to shiver the mental and physical pain that she suffered can never be undone things like rolkur, big lick, spanish nosebands, starfishing, neglect, sea sawing and the charlotte dujardin scandal are all abuse the fact that even the way that tack has been created to be abusive shows how far the equestrian world has fallen and the fact that the FEI doesnt do enough to stop abuse shows the issuses in the equestrian world. horses are animals that used to carry people into war, work long hours pulling heavy loads and yet they are still the victims to abuse if it was a celebrity whod whipped a chilled over 20 times in less then a minuet then the case would be treated with much morse severity and you wouldnt have any where near as many people on the deffence. this shows that the global population sees animal lives and animal wellbieng to be infireior and we have to acknowlege that the human race wouldnt be where it is if not for the animal lives that we so carelessly used for our own benifit.
