This is brilliant. I finished the second season, but it can't be compared to this, it's like watching the same actress in another movie. There are things in Sidney's character that I do not admire, and it keeps happening in the second season too: a man should not raise his voice in front of a lady and vice versa, but for some reason, it's normalised in this TV series.

Anyway, I believe Tom is the real loser in this serie. He sacrificed everyone else’s dreams for his own dream and he never took responsibility of his own wrong decisions. Even when he knew his own brother Sidney sacrificed his happiness for Tom’s dream, once againTom did it again and again even in the last season he didn’t care about his wife’s opinion, feelings or ideas. Even Arthur had better thinking and it was more mature than him.

These actors’ presence on screen and performances are excellent from facial expressions, acting and everything/ everyone around them. I’m so in love of them and this story!! 10 yrs difference is nothing. I’ve read Julie Abbot and her Daddy long legs story. It was wonderful! I would have love to see more of Sidney’s transformation from being a brute to a gentleman and lovable Sidney. These are the only 2 I would love to see again on screen. X🙏🏻👏👏🌟😋🎇🎻🎵🧨🎆🎇😄😃

Read Sanditon by Jane Austen and Another Lady, and you will see how Jane Austen would have ended her novel. In all her other novels, she never had a sad ending and she would not have done so with Sanditon.

I think Charlotte Heywood & Sidney Parker belong together because they started something that is hard to find a true love like theirs. When you know what true love feels like you feel the love between them with the heartbreak 💔 because at a time in our lives we find a true love like theirs and had to let it go and live with a heartbreak that will never be healed until you see them again to try to bring back of what you thought was lost when it wasn't because true love never dies or stops it was only the time that had stop not the truth of their true love that kept on going. I do hope they come together again because true love stays and never leaves the heart its always remain in the core of the heart when it comes to true love. I do hope Charlotte Heywood & Sidney Parker do end up together to marry which would be a perfect ending for season 4 with perfect love and the heart will be healed because True Love never dies!!!!❤

He definitely will someday in another adaptation. Sidney Parker is alive and well as an original Jane Austen character and thankfully in the many wonderful continuations. One of my favorites is "A Season At Sanditon" by Rose Servitova. Hope it will be made into an adaptation someday to complete the love story of Sidney and Charlotte as they deserve and as it should always be.

It is interesting reading people's views on Sidney's behaviour and attitude towards Charlotte as if Alexander Colbourne was an angel to rescue Charlotte. AC was also rude to Charlotte and made a mess of his love story with her in S2. Yes Sidney was rude as Mr Darcy was with Elizabeth Bennett to start with. Sidney has been hurt in the past and struggles to accept his feelings for Charlotte. But she was also inpolite talking about her hosts in such a manner when she was their guest. Sidney and Charlotte resemble the story of Mr Darcy and Miss Bennett. Full of pride and predujice. But they find each other in the end. No many people has pointed out Tom's attitute and reckless behaviour towards everyone around him. He expects help from everyone else and gives nothing in return. Thanks to Mary, he is told the sacrifice that his brother did for him. Tom ruined his brother's life at not personal cost. On the other hand, Alexander Coulbourne shows Charlotte that life gives people a second chance. I still rate the chemistry between SP and Charlotte better, but Xander manages to gain the respect of an audience who was as hurt as Sidney after S1 and saves a series making their love story worth it too. Good job Xander! I prefer Charlotte in S1. I find her a bit boring and tamed in S2/S3

Only Season 1 counts for me. The rest is just actors wearing wigs and speaking lines, whereas Sidney and Charlotte's live felt real. Brilliant performances by Rose Williams and Theo James. Really hoping for a better adaptation of Sanditon one day though - perhaps one based on one of the written completions which are more in line with what Austen might have written, had she lived to complete it. Unfortunately the sequel to the beautiful S1 was a farcical pastiche of a mixed jumble of period dramas and authors.

Theo James himself decided not to do another season. He has. not her commitments to do other movies which he was probably under contract. Actors may just quit a movie at any time in the UK but they are under contract in the US. Therefore, if he could not be committed to continue acting in Sanditon - he should never have agreed to being in the series.

He chose not to come back. He stated he liked the ending between them the way it was. He was in talks to come back at one point but had a bunch of other things going on. It's not the fault of the show's creators. You don't speak for us. The show is far more interesting this way and we LOVE Alexander Colbourne. It's like hearing children throwing a tantrum when they don't get their way. 🙄 The show's executive said they always assumed they'd be able to bring Sidney back, that he'd find a way around financial situation and marriage. But Theo "made it perfectly clear" he had no wish to return. So when Theo didn't return, they had to write a different story for Charlotte, as by this point the show was renewed. If you want to be angry at someone, it should be at him, because he didn't care one iota what fans wanted. You should do your research before getting all emotional about a fictional character.

@@patriciaholloway I read somewhere the reason he didnt return is due to creative differences. For an instance the script JY created. I woud have loved to have a copy of Andrew Davies script instead. Season 1 success is I believe not only the actors performances but also the scripts and storylines. There were several dialogues/lines I can remember that are memorable such as the boat rowing and Heraclitus scenes, the I am my best self my truest self scene, the scenes in the tent with Lady Susan, Charlotte, Sidney and Eliza scene, is that all I am to you scene after the tent scene, etc There are so many beautiful clips plus bonus points is the most beautiful perod drama dance and music. The eyes, smiles ...and of course how can I not forget the most beautiful clifftop kiss 🥰

Thank you for speaking up for the many of us who still care for Sidney and Charlotte's story and have zero interest in the other. There are so many inaccuracies in her comments that I am not even going to go into it all. It is their fall-back narrative every time someone says they don't care for S2/3. It wasn't the actor or Theo's fault at all. These were all Masterpiece PBS choices. They decided to do this instead of a time jump and or recast. They lied to and manipulated the fans. One only has to look at the recent Miss Scarlet and The Duke situation to see history repeating itself. Masterpiece needs to get their act together and stop treating audiences and fans so shabbily. There are many who no longer support or watch their series anymore because of their actions.

I guess you either don’t understand or are willfully obtuse as to what it means to have a narrative structure and narrative payoff. Building a story around a central relationship then destroying and retconning it doesn’t work. Jane Austen never did that - she always knew where she was going with the narrative and she delivered the narrative payoff. Besides Willoughby’s character deficiencies, structurally that wasn’t the central relationship (in her arc), it was always Brandon. Colbore wasn’t even a figment in AD’s or JY’s imagination in S1, let alone in Austen’s canon. 😂 Please.

I don't think their chemistry was special. CH was a naive young girl who became infatuated with Sidney when she saw his painting, She fell for his looks and I think TJ is a good actor but wasn't exceptional in this roll. I thought RW and BLH had incredible chemistry and he is truly an outstanding actor, The way he looked at CH and how he showed so much emotion in his face and voice in expressing his feelings for her was exceptional. I love TJ's looks and happy to look at him anytime but BLH stole my heart and made me fall in love with Alexander Colbourne, He truly was outstanding, I have watched all three seasons several times to analyze the acting and BLH stands out far and above as an actor.I

Sidney Parker was verbally abusive towards Charlotte. So glad the actor decided to leave the show. The writers and creators of Sidney Parker in S1 did not get Jane Austen. It's actually maddening that they tried to sell S1 like it was a Jane Austen. Far from it.

He makes women prove themselves to him before he gives them respect. How many of these ladies in real life would be turned on by a man insulting them and putting them 'in their place '?! Not that the course of true love ever ran smoothly, but if Charlotte was Sydney's true love and he couldn't be without her, he would have found a way. But instead, he runs off with his former love for her fortune in order to help Tom and Sanditon. Not exactly a win for that woman either!! And if Charlotte and Sydney had ended up together in Season 1, then what? It's more interesting this way. Some of these commenters need to realize that Theo left... he was not booted off the show 🙄

Charlotte was also quite strong will and opiniated. I found Sidney harsh and rude because he felt betrayed by his first love. So he finds difficult to trust another woman. Hence he is so reactive towards Charlotte. Until he realises what he feels for her. His brother Tom had far too much influence on him to let him live his life without helping him financially. That is where the problem was

I think someday there would be another adaptation of Sanditon and it would be a happy ever after completion of their story- Sidney and Charlotte’s love story. I prefer that ending than broken fairy tale. If that is the case, it would be timeless, would be something I would like to keep and that would truly bring a smile in my face. #SidlotteForever. Never felt so affected, it takes great actors who can make that happen. That’s their chemistry and magic they produced on screen plus a bonus they are both gorgeous, a beautiful love story . It’s all there in Season 1, all in one package except the ending.

Yeah.. 👎To a sh*t continuation that is totally disconnected to the heart of Sanditon =Sidney and Charlotte. The writers and production deserve nothing but rejection. They f**k*d a beautiful series up; disrespect to viewers and Austen. Amateurs!!! Season 2 and probably 3 are the worst concoction ever.

I have been keeping my ITV subscription just to keep on watching only Sanditon S1 many many times and perhaps a bit of S2 rewind or fast forward just to review the plots before S3. We are blessed to have SanditonFancitions to give these characters their deserving HEA. I prefer that than any kind of sad endings. x
