I have been waiting as patiently as I could for this new video. I'm so glad you're back. I'm loving this series. I have a 5.5 year old who demanded I teach her to read when she was only 20 months old. She was an early talker and told me, "Mommy, you me read." I asked if she meant she wanted me to teach her to read. She said yes. I had no idea how to teach a child so young, so I started with basics. I taught her to recognize the alphabet and then sounds of the letters. I took this very slow over the last few years and we are now on Lesson 60 of Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. I also am doing 1st grade level math with her because she loves the challenge. I wanted to badly to wait until she was 6 to start, but she was ready to start. I have two more behind her that are 2 and 1. We'll see how things go with them.

I hear you,..Our presh little DD right at 1 could not understand why I was "doing school" w/ her older sister, and not her (even w/ us spending time w/ her & reading books and such).. she would literally stand right in front of me, and look at me like, "..really?? what about me?.." ;)

Sounds like you will have smooth sailing with your daughter! I'll try and get subsequent videos up more quickly :)

I don’t even do kindergarten now. I read Ruth Beechicks pov on that and it made so much sense. I just follow my daughters lead :)

The pattern for reading sounds exciting I'm looking forward to that! Even though I have already taught several to read.....but I have a few more to go . I would love compare notes.

I am excited, too! I just have to compile some lists to make it a bit easier to implement.

Woo hoo, so happy you are back 🎉 Great video, and so true. I noticed with my son who is 8...i never pushed academics and we started when he was 7. I was so amazed at how much he knew already and how much easier it was to teach him! It makes so much sense to wait until their brains are more developed and can understand better. I have 3 younger girls- ages 5-1...and i am not pushing early academics on them either. Lots of playing, play doh, cutting and gluing! Now, with science, do you take a more Charlotte Mason approach to that as well? Would love to hear how you approach science and history...especially with the older children (middles and up). 😊

So great!! This info is truly worth it's weight in gold! SKH as always thank you so much.. always such a great blessing & encouragement. I remember hearing Dr. D. speaking on this..when I was a teenager.. and I'm so thankful for a few sweet mom friends who shared the same yrs later when I was trying to figure out how to educate my littles..... PS: my original initials used to be the same as yours..before I married my hubby that is.. ;)

PSS: Very curious, when it's convenient for you.. do you have a favorite way in sharing the Gospel w/ children? And possible favorite visuals while sharing ?

Funny--another SKH! I think the message of the Moores would really bless newer homeschoolers just like it has blessed us, don't you?

@@shaysjs3376 There are so many ways, mostly ones that occur naturally as we read the Bible and discuss life together. I'll have to think of how to compile and present that...

I have a question. My boys are ten and twelve. I'm trying to implement a Charlotte Mason method of homeschooling. They both read really well but as far as writing and Grammar we are lost. I have the McGuffey readers. Two different sets. How would I place them in a particular book. Would your workbooks explain how we would use these books? I'm trying to simplify how our school day is spent. Any advice would be helpful.

Be glad to help! If you go to my blog, momdelights.com, you will find a post on how to place them. Here is the link to make it easier for you: momdelights.com/index.php/2016/04/18/how-to-place-your-children-in-the-mcguffey-readers/ As for the grammar, I have a free download of what I call "Gentle Grammar," or you could purchase the printed booklet from Amazon: www.amazon.com/Gentle-Grammar-Level-1/dp/1720816328/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1539308836&sr=1-1&dpID=51uKHBPUNWL&preST=_SX218_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch (there are four levels).

Would I begin with level 1 for the Grammar workbook?
@MomDelights5 жыл бұрын
@@michellechannell1219 If your boys are totally lost it might be a good idea. The lessons are short, so they could come up to speed pretty quickly.
