Charlottesville’s new zoning ordinance sparks lawsuit

In December, Charlottesville’s City Council unanimously approved a zoning ordinance change. It has been opposed by several residents concerned about population density, capacity and preserving the city’s charm.

The "City of Charlottesville" only refers to inner core of the much larger area know as Charlottesville. The mayor is a part-time job and is paid only $20K per year and mayors often work at and or teach in the university. Therefore, the "City" is a laboratory for urban planning concepts and is often subject to experimental policies such as this.
