In 1977 I had the great fortune to see Charlton Heston, Debra Kerr and Andrew Prine perform the play, “A Long Day’s Journey Into Night” at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles! What an impressive figure he was live, on stage! He had massive shoulders and a booming voice! I was mesmerized! What a presence he was. I’ve always loved him as Moses in “The Ten Commandments” that I saw as a child on the panoramic screen. But to see him on stage, WOW! I also got to see Yul Brenner perform one of his last performances of “The King And I” at the Pantages Theater! Boy did he know how to “milk” an audience! You could tell, he was having so much fun drawing out his lines for a live audience! What a treat! I had such a good time!

Plus, I admire him for being a great father to his children. Along with having a great screen presence and acting talent, I praise him for marching with Martin Luther King Jr., Henry Belafonte, and Sidney Poitier for civil rights. Of course, nobody is perfect, but I do give Charlton credit for standing up for what be believes in, although I'll have to admit; I have mixed feelings about the right to gun ownership. Charlton Heston STILL is one of my favorite actors, AND personality. I’m 71 and saw Ben Hur when premiered on the screen in Los Angeles. To this day it is still my top favorite movie. He became my favorite star from that day forward and still is today. His faith was an integral part of his life, so much so that he did a series on The Bible and his reading of scripture was always so moving. I have a prize possession of a photograph of he and our daughter at a political event. She worked for the people running the event. We call it the “Prom” picture because they are facing each other and he is holding her two hands in his. Their smiles say it all and they look so happy. He was gracious and loving Christian man. He ALWAYS showed his faith and did not apologize for it.

I got to meet Charleton Heston when he played at a benefit tennis tournament for the American Cancer Society in the early 70's. Rod Laver and Wayne Rogers also played that day. Mr. Heston was such a fine gentleman and a superb actor. Also played a good game of tennis.

Charlton Heston was one of my favorite actors. I did not know all of what was shared about him. Your narrative of him makes me even more respectful of him. I would not have expected any less of Mr. Heston regarding his devotion to his wife and his children. Others in Hollywood could and should follow his example of life and love for his family. Last and certainly not least, I did not know that he marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. BRAVO for him and thanks!

She has a strangely shaped mouth. Very narrow mouth, in the vertical sense. The top lip and the bottom lip are very closely spaced. But the mouth itself is very wide, from side to side, I mean. The mouth is not very appealing. I've seen her loads of times on KZbin, caused I watched Cassandra Crossing dozens of times during the pandemic 3 yrs ago, cause the movie had a pandemic element to it. Her "beauty" is highly overrated.

I heard him say in an interview that his favourite of all his movies was a simple western called Will Penny. I had seen that movie and had to agree. It was not the usual epic that he's associated with and his acting was fantastic.

I agree, he gave great dignity and a simple morality to his character. Playing an aging illiterate cowboy in a gritty realistic look at life as a solitary range worker. He put as much if not more into portraying this ordinary man as any hero he played.

I hadn't thought Heston was such a civil rights man but as a youth wasn't aware of much that wasn't on TV. I knew about his position in NRA "Don't take my guns!" He presented as an Alpha A male to me conservative as Reagan opposite of Lancaster. I have a renewed opinion.

This was an iconic actor (though not a great one) in iconic movie roles of a bygone film era. Although his film parts rapidly declined in the late 70s-80s, his activism (viewed positive or negatively) as with the man, were purely genuine…in my opinion. No matter where you sit on the fence with his views, he can be admired.

Heston was indeed a great actor, both in movies, TV and theatre. (I saw him in a play in London in 1986 and he was excellent) And just watch films like Ben Hur, Will Penny, his Richelieu in The Three Musketeers, Pro Number One, and a ton of other movies. He could play all kind of persons.
@elizabethroberts6215 Жыл бұрын
Mr Charlton Heston was a GREAT actor. He played roles’ that no other actor could hope to. He believed in stage acting as much as his schedule would allow, to keep him ‘up to date’ with that medium. There’s no one currently, or even possibly in the future to match him. RIP, your job was well done!
@gerthenriksen8818 Жыл бұрын
@@elizabethroberts6215 Agree completely. No one today can match him, just look at the new versions of Ben Hur and the remake of Moses./ten Commandment. And no one looks like Charlton Heston. He was indeed a rarity, both in appearance and in his range as an actor.

I happened to be in a bakery showroom on Ventura Bl. one day in the late 70s when a limo pulled up out front and out came Charlton Heston. He strode in and proceeded to the counter where he took possession of a huge flat cake with an amusement park theme on it, obviously for a small child. He cradled it and walked back to the limo, where the driver opened the rear door for him, He slid in and they drove off. That random sight said tons about what kind of man he was. What an honor it was to observe it up close and personal.

Very nice to hear, he wasn't one of the best actors for nothing, remember what we saw on screen was his job and he was obviously very convincing at it. As for Sophia Loren if half of what was said was true about her in this article I'm not surprised they did not get on I don't think I would have thought much of her either.

SL always arrived late on set each day, during filming of ‘El Cid’. That would’ve angered Mr Heston, the Director, & the rest of the crew, & actors’. She was just a full blown diva.

Charlton Heston is one of the few actors that I have always had a great deal of respect for even though sometimes I never understood why. There was a sense of quality as a human being as a creation of God that I believe even God respected.Some think when a man does certain things in films they judge and condemn him to their narrow view of God. This man in order to keep who he was and have raised these two children is a testiment to both him and his wife. In a world that is guided by hell (if anyone knows Loren's background) would think that he would have succomed to her. The fact that he would not look into her eyes tells you alot about the spiritual man within. I love his voice so much in the Ten Commandments that I often go to HIS reading of the Bible. No man could have what he had without have a great deal of God in hsi heart no matter what he did for a living. This video proved to me that what I felt from the beginnng about this man was truly from the LORD.

It's good to hear the Charlton Heston defended African-American people! Because I also remember, and I know that they came a long way in a short period of time! In the Bible Moses's Sister Miriam was angry with Moses because he married a black woman, and God struck Miriam with the disease and she was put outside the camp! Moses did the question thing and prayed for his sister, and God healed her! She was a troublemaker and she was prejudiced against the Ethiopian woman! All throughout the Bible if you read it correctly you will realize that God is Not Prejudice at all and he hates prejudice! God says; I am no respecter of persons! This pretty much says it all about what God thinks about busy bodies that dislike people with the color of their skin, God made all colors and he loves all his children and to him we are all a beautiful bouquet in his creation!
