It is always a perfect time to make frijoles charros (charros beans) but name an event you like to make frijoles charros for?

Stopped in San Antonio once, went to a Mexican restaurant, ordered 2 carne asada tacos w/ beans, rice, she said we don't have carne asada, we have brisket tacos, being from California, I asked what's brisket ? I said that's fine, she then said, we don't have refried beans, we have, charros, I said what's that ? I said ok, I then asked for tapitio, she said what's that ? She said we have chelulu, ok, it was different, but delicious, since then I make (charros) probably 4/5 times a year, so next time, I'll use your recipe, enjoyed your show, thanks.

I found your comment amusing in a nice way. I’m born and raised in California. I thought to myself, he doesn’t know brisket? 🤔 I hope you like the frijoles charro (charro beans) when you decide to cook them.

I’m trying out your recipe now. It’s still simmering and it smells great. I made a bunch of dirty dishes to make it LOL because I took an extra step to ensure the excess grease was removed. I poured the meat mixture through a metal stainer before adding the beans. At first glance in the pot it didn’t look like much but I ended up with a quarter cup of excess grease.

Wonderful. I just made it and it came out great. One modification.... I notice all the Mexicans put hot dogs in this recipe. The problem is that... hot dogs are no longer what they used to be. The companies have (over time) started to remove the pork... then, after going to beef... they went to turkey/beef... now they've gone to turkey/chicken. Come on... do they think we are not watching? they charge the same for a pack of hot dogs but we get this flavorless inferior poultry product. Instead, I got the Hillshire farms smoked sausage (it has real pork in it) and I believe the dish was much better because of this. Thanks very much Ms. Villa. Love your recipes and your channel.

This recipe is excellent. I've been cooking *cowboy beans* for many years. The good thing about this recipe you can adjust it to your own taste. You can make it with any amount of hot or mild taste. I've made the same recipe with white, brown sugar, frank's hot sauce or BBQ sauce and with any kind of meat you want. Fresh or canned tomatoes will work. A tablespoon of mustard with season your beans nicely. I slow this in my mom's antique cook pot. This recipe is a favorite of mine.
