So what is the best way to read the bible - chronologically or what?

Start with Romans and understand Paul's 13 epistles rightly divided. This is what is written to us for our doctrine to live by. Then simultaneously read and study the rest of your bible but know that most of it was not written to you. And is not our doctrine. All scripture is profitable.

@@dkgrace6743 I disagree with starting at Romans. You first must understand how the entire bible is written and how it is divided. The Messiah instructed his disciples to begin with Moses, and demonstrated. Luk 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. Keep in mind that at the time of the Messiah the "New Testament" portion of the bible had not been written. He was referring to the "Old Testament" especially the writings of Moses. Moses wrote the first 5 books of the bible, that is, the books of the law. The prophecy, or from Joshua to Malachi comprise the rest of the "Old Testament". The books of the prophecy must be in harmony with the books of the law. The books of the "new testament" must also be in harmony with the books of the law and prophecy. If you start reading in the "new testament" books you will have no understanding of what you are in reading in relation to the writing of Moses and the Prophets. As the Messiah stated that he taught his disciples, beginning with the writings of Moses, the things concerning himself.

@@Mr1sammyd21 If you start reading and studying your bible from Genesis you will not get to your most important part of the bible that was written to you and how you can be made right with God through Jesus Christ and His work on the cross, for a loooong time. Granted all scripture is for us and profitable for us but not all scripture was written to us to get saved and live by. There is nothing for people in this body of Christ age, in the OT or the 4 gospels that can save you today. One must first hear, believe and trust the gospel given first by Paul for us today, to be saved, before one can understand the rest of God's word. Saved first (read Romans) - only from our apostles Paul's books, then Christian living, works and attitude follows. It can't be in any other order. It is only by rightly dividing God's word, that one could come to this correct conclusion.

Interesting points … from the bit I heard. I suppose when I think about "Progressive Revelation" is can see understandings GROWING in Scripture, even though *God has not spoken in secrete from the beginning.* TRINITY: God shows us the Trinity all through the OT (the THREE who visited Abraham, the shema, the Aaronic Benediction, Psalm 2, Isaiah 48v16, etc, etc), but the greater understanding doesn't come until the NT. HELL: Again, God doen'st go into any real detail in the OT, though He hints at it as it is a place that the WICKED go. The revelation of it comes in the NT. RAPTURE: Again, another thing that isn't fully revealed until the NT. But the OT has indications, such as Abraham's testimony of God's Character (will not punish the righteous just to get at the wicked), and Job's testimony, and Lot's deliverance, and Noah's deliverance, and Enoch, and Elijah. LAW/GRACE: The Law teaches us what is offensive to God, man, and animals. Sin. But sin predates the law, just as judgment and salvation predate the law. The law was never meant to save. That is not its purpose. But the Law AND the Prophets, point to the Messiah. DANIEL/MESSIAH/ANTICHRIST: Daniel's 4 beasts and 4 metalics couldn't have been understood in his lifetime. Persia hadn't come yet! Greece hadn't come yet! Rome hadn't come yet! But now, in 2019, we can clearly look back in time and understand it perfectly. Just as we can calculate the time it would take for the Messiah to arrive once the degree to rebuild and restore Israel was 483 years (7 weeks and 62 weeks = 49 years + 434 years) … but Daniel gave a total of 70 weeks, not 69. There remains one final week. They could not have understood these things in ancient times. But they are obvious today. *These are REVELATIONS of old things, clearly already mentioned. They are UNDERSTANDINGS of old things. Do not get this confused with INTRODUCTIONS OF {NEW} THINGS! It's not the same.* Stay away from new winds and philosophies.
