I've seen a lot of comments that people could not find physical copies in real stores to buy. Not enough distributed. A lot of missed sales resulted. Demand underestimated.

Hey Joe, thanks for the chart research. I did some of my own. Ringo’s “A Dose of Rock and Roll” single peaked at #26 in the U.S. and not at all in the U.K.! It’s my favorite Ringo single! As George said, that’s the way it goes!

Well done and informative video here, Joe. Thanks for it. I was in radio 30+ years and I truly believe that radio, in general, ignores classic artists and this factors in on sales of these artists' albums. I believe that is why last year (actually Nov '23) we seen a really good album by The Stones chart high the first week and then drop quickly. The single DID get airplay 3:53 but not on popular hits formats. It happened to Bruce and Macca, too. It is unfortunate but for the most part, hits formats seem to have an age cutoff. The music isn't based on the quality but ageism. It sucks. Each and every week, try checking out the Top 10 (I do for pop and country). Slim pickins' my friend! Personally, I think Ringo (and T-Bone) put out a damn strong offering here. And for me, it is enjoyable the whole way through. Thanks again for the update, Joe. I always appreciate your videos. 👍

While I don’t like fans that write-off Ringo, I can understand it. For a while he’s made a lot of albums and EPs that all pretty much sound the same. I understand not wanting to spend your hard-earned money on a Ringo album if your expectations are low, but AT LEAST stream it once or twice and give it a chance. I think they would actually really like it if they went in with an open mind. Even then I feel like Ringo’s material lately has been pretty strong. “Rewind Forward” was honestly one of his best songs in decades, I liked that one quite a lot, and this new album is also rather good.
@stanleyferdinand597910 күн бұрын
I think you are right. Its the streams count that distorts the charts these days. A chart of just physical media sales would be more relevant.

I wonder if an albums' debut position on Billboard is affected by which day of the week the album is released. Look Up was released on a Friday, whereas most of Ringo's albums from the 2010s were released early in the week. Considering how well Look Up has done internationally, I feel there may be a chance that we'll see Look Up ascend the charts a bit.

Somehow Pauls latest albums where still #1 and #2 in the streaming era (I know you mentioned the various LP version). And the songs don’t have that many streams. In other countries like Germany (#14), Switzerland (#7) and my country Austria, its still the highest charting album ever from Ringo or since the 70s/80s!
@richardhenle265010 күн бұрын
Yeah I am surprised at that number only because physically It was moving well, what I will say is that If you didnt get it on vinyl right away, AMAZON, Barnes and Noble and other physical media outlets did not have it, after the first few days, it was sold out and backordered, the cd was in stock pretty much, so I think a bit of that comes into play but also it still shows the overall power of streaming and how it really still is almost 85% the way people get music overall. I am curious the total sold units, how many were physical my guess is that the amount sold is probably 99% physical media, this happens with all older artists. People Joke about BON JOVI's last album debuting in top 10 and then one week later falling off the charts, and their first week sales were 55,000 and 52,000 of it were physical cds and LPS, so I tend to look at the album sales charts not so much the TOP 200 anymore.
@yoshispongegirl10 күн бұрын
So proud of Ringo for this! Charts today are honestly biased mostly and are practically forced for streaming if you want the absolute top...that really hurts Ringo (and me, as a younger beatlemaniac who appreciates the classic way) and his chances of getting any higher and it only gets worse by the year. I guarantee you any album that's in the charts right now over 100 at least is garbage whereas Ringo deserves #1. ❤

It has nothing to do with the charts, They've been tracking it the same way for all of those albums, its the fact that it wasn't mainstream country, Country does amazing on the 200 chart but it was Ringo that turned people off, it also could be the availability of it to purchase

Disappointing, I suppose, but Billboard charts are mostly meaningless these days, especially since they're including streaming in the calculations. Greatest hits from CCR, Elton John and others are in that album chart simply because the streaming metrics for their popular songs matched them up with those compilations and boosted them up the chart.

Chart positions are not an indication of quality but of sales during a particular month, so I don't pay attention to these. Musical tastes change over time. I.e. if the new Ringo album was released in the early 70s it would most likely rank higher. Personally, I would prefer a monthly list based on average star ratings for new releases made by selected music critics.
@MeanMrMayo10 күн бұрын
I agree, chart positions don't indicate quality. But it's still technically a matter of record. And I certainly agree that time is a huge factor, such as this Ringo album being much more successful if released in the 1970s.
