I love charter arms for what they are and I fully support the company. Hope they decide to make a 4" version of this with 6 rounds. Charter if you see this you know what to do! ;)

C.A. classifies this gun as their XL frame size. For them to build a six-shot, Nick Ecker would have to build a gun as large as an S&W N frame (specific Model 25-2) for cylinder wall integrity. For me, were Charter to offer a target adjustable rear sight w/ 4" barrel variant of the .45 ACP Pitbull my order would be in next week. How about it, Mr. E. ?

The version that's available in Canada has a barrel length just under 4.2" to comply with Canadian handgun laws. Not sure why they haven't made it available in the US.

I just bought this revolver a couple of weeks ago. I've put about 200 rounds through it and my only real complaint was that the "low profile" grips threw off my aim (too much finger on the trigger). Even with that I had reasonably small groups (3 to 4 inches) at 20ft once I compensated ... it's a snubby after all. I replaced them with the Pachmayr Charter Arms grips and it feels much more natural. Tomorrow's range day so fingers crossed. . Oh yeah, whenever I eject the rounds, I always point the barrel straight up. The little spring detents holding the base of the cartridge don't like horizontal.

I'm 6'0 150lbs. and to me the recoil is almost non-existent, especially for a 22oz. snubnose. The 230gr. ball ammo has a little more than the 165gr. HydraShoks but I'm also used to shooting .44mag.

Thanks Josh. You shoot as well as the rest of us, good enough to kill if necessary, which is all that matters. I have been considering getting the pitbull in both .45 acp and 9mm just to keep my ammunition variety at two readily available, reasonably-priced calibers. Using the same ammo in both my semi-autos and revolvers just makes sense. Of course, everyone should have at lease one .22 for cheap plinking practice.

Hey batter batter , SWING! 😇 The gun was made strictly for closeups where Mr. Bad guy can smell your breath. Try an old broken down .45 magazine, a 10 shot version gives you two extra cylinders full. As for fancy schmancy hollow points, they may not mushroom from such a short barrel. Tips: pacemaker full size grippers for recoil, an old .45 magazine to reload, and if one insists on hollopoints a 185 grainer is very well known as a stopper better than heavy bullet which moves too slow. You're not going to get the velocity posted on ammo boxes from a puny barrel. I packed a concealed .44 Bulldog for about 30 years, and not one problem. Daughter has it now.

Revolvers firing pistol cartridges began to become popular after WW1 when the USA realised that they needed more M1911 than they had in stock and the factories were already at the top of production they resorted to using revolvers with frames large and robust enough of similar caliber as the Colt New Service 45 and the S & W of the 44 Spl but in order not to complicate the logistics with different types of ammunition adapted them to use the 45 Auto of the M1911, which being a low pressure cartridge made the operation feasible by creating models like the M1917. The only downside is that the 45 Auto had no flange but they devised the “moon Clips” (it comes from that the first ones were half-moon shaped and housed three cartridges, later they made them for six cartridges and by the way they facilitated the recharge being a kind of grandparents of the “speed-loaders”). What did not cease to be a temporary solution to a logistical problem, when these revolvers were sold in the civilian market as military surpluses at affordable prices, began to be known and appreciated. Generally using pistol ammunition on a revolver seems quite exotic and unnecessary but for different reasons it is not so bad. Many people, not especially inclined towards weapons or who have not developed a special ability to quickly and efficiently solve the possible interruptions that can occur with pistol, or who due to illness, previous injuries, age, etc. are not able to hold with the necessary firmness these Officer’s type pistols, have an excellent option in revolvers. There is a ballistic revolver cartridge similar to the 45 Auto which is the 44 Spl, but due to market circumstances it is an ammunition that is not always available everywhere, being of shorter production runs somewhat more expensive than the 45 Auto and does not have the variety of bullets and loads available. This is oriented to a type of customer that is equivalent to the one that would carry a Colt Officer’s, Star PD, Detonics, etc. in 45 that for some reason prefers to opt for a revolver and meets a product like the Charter Arms Pitbull of that calibre using as a base the classic Bulldog model of the 44 Spl whose ammunition is basically available anywhere at more reasonable prices. At least there is a clear reason why it exists. ✨🖖😁✨

Most of the Charter revolvers that do not have a rear sight and only a fixed front sight can be fine tuned by filing down the height of the front sight until you don't over shoot at your preferred distance. After you get it dialed in with the load you like, it'll be a matter of practicing where to hold at other distances. And... the key word is practice, practice and practice some more. If you do, you'll end up with a fine defensive sidearm that won't fail you and be a fight ender.

I recently saw this video when researching to purchase a Pitbull 45 acp. I just got mine in and I like it. As for the trash talking people they need to remember that weapons come in all qualities good and bad. I for one don't trust semi auto pistols very far due to hang fires, jams and bad mags. In addition to timing issues caused by poor ammo. In a revolver there are issues to and in the case of the Pitbull series, no you are not going to get a speed load in quickly, BUT that's why you practice practice practice. I gave up my slab side 1911 styles due to issues that popped up on the range and I didn't see coming. Problems that had I had to pull it out under stress I would have lost. That 45 revolver is going to go bang 5 time running for sure and with a snout that big I can use CCI birdshot AND hollow points in the same setup. Anybody ever had #9 shot hit em at close range? It plays hell with exposed skin, especially the face and eyes...my first target. So trash talk all you want....I will keep my CA on my hip!

Charter Arms R&Ded a good design. No speed clips or "moon" clips are a big +. I'd be concerned with long term durability, quality after 1500, 3500 .45 rounds. Also if this stout 5 shot can deal with +P .45acp ammunition. If CA made a spurless snub .45acp in DA only, that would be a big +.
@vincentdorsey8545
@vincentdorsey8545 2 жыл бұрын
@@DavidLLambertmobile I am still loving mine. I agree with the DAO idea and even asked them directly if they intended to make a DAO hammer for it. They said not a this time. And I thought a DAO hammer for the 44 might work, bought one, and nope it doesn't. SO, my only recourse is to buy a standard hammer for the 45 and trim it down to a knobby. Haven't done that yet.

Hi Gregg. Litle snubbies are tough to be accurate with. I have the Pitbull .40S&W and just ordered the 9MM Pitbull. The recoil from full load .40S&W was brutal on my relatively thin hands. I bought some Federal 135 grain low recoil Hydra Shock loads, and I think that will solve my problems. I won't get the 9MM until next week, but I also think the recoil in that will be much milder. Anyway, really enjoyed your video. :-)

Iirc, i heard in a SHOT show list of new products that Charter is bringing out a Bulldog in 41 Mag, for those who want serious big bore power. I understand why they avoided moon clips, because u need a specific pouch to carry them so they don't get bent. However, there are no speed loaders, and i am not sure if speed strips hold a rimless cartridge very well. So i guess the main option is to carry a 1911 mag and use it like a Pez dispenser ro reload. Maybe someone will bring out a speedloader specific to these.

@toddy2519
@toddy2519 6 жыл бұрын
@@wizardofahhhs759 The .45 Auto cartridge is rimless. The term .45 ACP applies to the actual pistol (1911-A1). I don't know why everyone started calling the cartridge ACP ...Automatic Colt Pistol, perhaps the same reason the .45 Colt is called Long Colt. No such cartridge ever existed by that name.

Hi. Thanks for an honest video. 😊 First of all, you weren't missing by very much from what I could see. It looked like your shots were keeping within a 6 in circle. Well within the effective zone for self defense. Just make sure that any real defense use stays within that distance until you get better with that particular gun. As you get better, distance increases for defense. For offensive use, you need that same 6 inches at 100 yards (and yes, it can be done. My brother hunts coyotes with a revolver and regularly connects at 200 yards). Key is consistent placement within the hand, and consistency of grip strength. Master those things and group size magically shrinks. Nuff bout that....it would be helpful to show how the cartridge sits in the chamber, and how ejection is arranged (spring loaded pins???) And for myself, I prefer the moon clips. Having used both kinds of revolvers (moon clips vs single feed) I can assure you that moon clips are exponentially faster on reload, and highly reliable with ejection. The only disadvantage to moon clips is removing fired cases from the clips, and Brownells and Ranch Products both sell very neat tools which make that chore a breeze. I have had some tell me that all they have to do is stick in a new mag. True, but they have to FILL that mag - same as the clips.............. As an aside for those who gave you fits about the "45 acp revolver", you are quite right. 45 acp refers to the cartridge. Even though it was invented for the automatic pistol, any other firearm that uses the same cartridge is called by the name of the cartridge. The only exception to that would be a common name given by users, i.e. "burp gun". Everyone knows that is a 9mm. Or "Colt 45" which everyone knows is the 1911 in 45acp caliber. The other Colt 45 (army revolver) was referred to as "Long Colt". Or the Colt Thunderer which was only available in 41 Colt. Or the Smith Highway Patrolman which was 357 mag. Firearm nomenclature isn't an exact science. The 38-40 is actually a 40 caliber, while the 38 Special is 36 caliber. The 44 mag is a 43 caliber, but the 44 army revolvers are 45 caliber. The 303 British is 312 caliber, but the 32 ACP is also 312. Then there's the 7.62's. Some are 308, some are 311, but some 308 calibers are named "7.5". Trying to force exactness on firearm nomenclature is simply an exercise in frustration. Exactness needs to be reserved for the actual measurements of the firearm/ammo, not in what they are called.

"45 acp refers to the cartridge." Incorrect, the proper name for the cartridge is .45 Auto, not ACP.

@@JOPAGalvin no, it’s got the little clips built in that bite into the groove underneath the “rim” for the lack of a better term. From what I hear it’s reliable and durable. Interested in picking one up for myself.

Adrian Otero as far as preference between the 2 I couldn't say, I've never had the opportunity to fire the Boomer. Your certainly right about the 45 though, it is easier to get and cheaper as well! Thanks for watching!

I reload, so I like the 44 special. Also, you can shoot the lower power 44 Russian through it, which is nice if you don't want as much recoil.

With all respect to you, while you have a good spirit, your marksmanship skills need to improve! Logistically the 45 ACP caliber is a better choice over the 44 Special in the Charter Arms revolver package. As 45 ACP ammunition is often found in most stores as compared to the 44 Special caliber ammunition, which has to be the lower powered 44 Special rounds that are not as often found. In the Charter Arms revolvers, the 45 ACP Pitbull is a stronger and larger built frame than their 44 Special Bulldog, which is limited to lower powered 44 Special loaded rounds.

@jalan8171

Another Tuber showed one shooting .45 Super. It held together; keep in mind Charter does not advise feeding those Hot rounds with the gun. Same applies to running +P through its 9×19 revolvers. Consider using the high power round sparingly or expect shorter service life from these Charter guns. Even the big S&W guns will tolerate a limited diet of high pressure .45's.

Try aiming and taking at least a second before you pull the trigger and you would have nailed everything you aimed at.

If you really want to shoot with any accuracy you'd probably want to put a Pachmayr Compac grip on and then sand it down to fit your hand. Those so-called combat grips are too thin for that much recoil. Good that you were honest but you do suck shooting airweight Big Bore revolvers. Good that you made an honest attempt but you really do need a better grip and more practice.
