thanks a bunch, I've completed mine now. In a couple of weeks I'll rig it up to the plane. Let you know how it works

I assume you use a pulley on the strut further up that gives you a release point. It doesn't appear that the cam it tracking to the drill. Correct?

I have mine built but not tested yet. My only question is, did you mark the line somehow so you can tell how far you have let the drogue out?

I marked it with magic marker. First mark comes off the reel when camera is about 5 feet behind the airplane. I used black marker on 10 foot intervals, one band for each ten foot interval. I put a single red mark on the 5 foot intervals between the black marks.

@@wakataka53 Okay, I didn't expect it would show up too well if you did that. I tested mine yesterday on the Thunder Gull. With the short wingspan and higher speeds, it started looping and spinning if if was much behind the tail. Reeling it in, it hit a spot almost next to the tail where it suddenly stabilized. It was rolling some, but I was using a weight in place of a camera, and did not take into consideration the extra weight of a ball mount. More weight may help that. However, it may not be worth it on this plane. I did invent a mount for the camera which is attached to the underside of the wing that eliminates virtually all the vibration, and I can reach it in flight to aim it any direction. So, I may just keep using that. If I get a slower ultralight with a fabric wing, I will try this again.
