*Another thing I do is change my scarcity mindset!* Growing up I've always had this scarcity mindset, thinking that I have to save and hoard all the good things in life. This caused me to cumulate unused and expired makeup, unworn clothes and handbags that caused EVEN MORE WASTE in the end. Now, I make an effort to use up what I already bought, and stop forgetting about the things I purchased. This also helped me with shopping urges and have more gratitude for the things I already own.

Cherry Tung - Luxury Fashion & Money Hacks this resonates so much with me!! I still do this all the time and don’t want to use my new clothes or shoes because I don’t want to “waste” them. I really want to be able to wear and enjoy the things I love but Im still working to change my mindset!

I suffer with this mindset too! Could you perhaps elaborate how you pulled yourself out of it? And how you make yourself actually use the stuff that you buy?

@@AndWhatAboutIt There are two ways to look at this. Amy buys several items of things she likes and rotates them. Therefore keeping something she likes for years. I have up till now had just one item and used it till it's ready to be thrown away. If you don't change weight too much (which I'm lucky enough to do), I'm coming round to Amy's way of thinking.

Oh my, this was so me before. Coming from a poor background and started living in the US 10yrs ago my scarcity mindset got me hoarding 'free stuffs' that I don't even need. I felt so heavy having all these things around me till I stumbled on minimalist videos and I started unloading and only keeping quality stuffs.

I love this topic I have been on the extreme end, I used to follow Gordon Ramsey and Suze Orman religiously but at the end of the day when you completely deprive yourself from enjoying certain things that you truly enjoy it is also not healthy. I actually ended up saving so much for a year and then spending so much the year after. So I have found what worked for me and followed that ever since. I now have a reward system for every financial milestone I achieve. For example, after having enough emergency fund I got myself my first Louis Vuitton wallet. After buying a house, I bought myself my first Chanel bag (pre loved), after I renovated my home (which increased the equity of our house) I bought my first Valentino shoes (pre loved).

I have a technique I call "plotting". Lol if I want something I save up for it, I also look at all the options learn about them, getting a good price etc. Then, when I'm finally ready to buy, I know I'm making the best possible choice for me, plus the sense of achievement is huge.

Something I would add, is if you DO get a promotion... continue living on your previous wage and bank the difference (or invest). The more money you make the more you somehow end up on spending on food and other "necessities" until you go... how did i ever live on less? Its a trap I fell into when i was younger and wish I had saved it (or bought better things and not wasted it, but thats what your early 20's are for!) and yes SPEAK about money!!! its only come to my attention recently I actually make more than most of my friends, and earn way above the normal wage. I have no idea how I would live if had to get another job and earn the average (though i want to attempt to live like i earn less to bank more).

@@brokegirl123 Therein lies my point. What's the point in buying handbags if you don't use them? Why plan to resell it later only to buy more bags? I see it in KZbinrs and bloggers all the time. It's a never-ending cycle where you gain nothing except a bunch of bags on a shelf. Also when you resell it, that's not a guarantee of getting all your money back. At least just put that money in future savings/retirement instead of bags and shoes collecting dust.

Funny, I had something similar happen with commilitons when we were on a study trip. We went (much to my dislike - it was too noisy for my taste!) out every evening. I drank mineral water, which was about 3 €; the others ordered multiple expensive drinks, I guess they spent over 60 € an evening. On our last day I went to Cartier and bought myself a beautiful pen, which I wanted to have for a long time. My commilitons saw that, and one of them said "I couldn't afford spending so much money for a pen!". And I answered: "Well, actually you could, if you wanted to; you just had to skip those many expensive drinks you ordered in every bar we visited the last three days." That was that 😊. I think everyone should spend their money on things they enjoy; but fact is, because most of us aren't billionaires, we have to decide what is more (or most) important for us to have. Some like splurging on going out on a regularly basis, some like saving that money and buy a nice handbag, jewellery, or something else 🤗.
