You're not just a guy in a room, you're one of the only music reaction channels that actually contributes something. You don't stretch your videos with "wow" "oh my god" etc. You actually take 20 minutes to unpack the theory, technical aspects and soul of the music. No breath is wasted, I really appreciate your channel man.

Little late to the party but I gotta say that your ability to pick out key aspects of the song and your understanding of it with your first listen through is amazing. Tim Henson, who typically leads on writing songs for Polyphia, has talked about his method of writing music, and it revolves around understanding the guitar as a musical instrument, a means to an end, rather than the end in and of itself. Once he understood that concept when he was a teenager, his writing shifted from "difficult, technical, and very fast" to "difficult, technical, and extremely musical." Another interesting aspect that lends the band uniqueness is that Tim typically writes his songs virtually before trying to play it through on his guitar. He'll obviously have ideas and things he's riffed on his guitar before, but when he puts it all together, he has to then figure out how to actually play it on the guitar, and learn which fingerings are most efficient for a given chord progression. Because he isn't limited by what he's familiar with doing with his hands, he can put together much more creative pieces that force him to continue to explore outside of his comfort zone. I honestly think it's why he's going to be in the top 5 guitarists of all time someday.

I say this as someone watching this as a first introduction to your channel: I VERY much appreciate your commentary. A vast majority of reactors just stick with basic comments about how impressive Polyphia is, but you really dig into the intricacies of what they're playing, why it works together, etc. You also break down multiple facets between the lead and rhythm sections which is very much appreciated compared to other reactions. You've absolutely EARNED my subscription, and I can't wait to see what comes next from you!

Stumbled across your G.O.A.T reaction video a few minutes ago. Seeing the mix of amazement, disbelief and tentative joy upon hearing just the beginning of the track was a delight, as was the remainder of the video as you began to adjust and dissect the playing and compositional skills. Said I'd check the channel and sure enough there's a plethora of Polyphia reactions, but I absolutely had to check this one out in particular. I'm in the midst of finishing up learning Playing God (have it at about 90% up to speed - another few weeks of practice ahead!) and I can safely say that this was the track that reignited my passion for playing guitar. My own initial reaction to this track mirrors your own, and it was quite a strange, unexpected and rather heart-warming experience to see that. Despite being familiar with their playing, they still managed to go above and beyond and blow you away. I remember feeling that buzz and incredulity and it was kind of a blast to get caught up in your excitement and watch as you deconstructed the track and appreciated the various bits and pieces throughout. Your passion for music is on full display and it is a treat to see. Keep up the great work!

Late to the party on this one! I just discovered Polyphia and your channel! Didn’t see it in the comments - but I imagine the title “playing god” came from the inspiration. Tim mentioned, “Gospel chord progressions, lots of 7’s” and they were playing around with an Omnichord. Omni, 7’s, Gospel.

This is such a mind-blowing piece of music. The solo playthrough videos that Tim and Clay A have done are crazy to watch. By the way, have you heard any of Evergrey's new music? I remember you really enjoyed their stuff you checked out last year. Also, speaking of Michael Palmisano, when I went to his video, one of the top suggestions on the side was his reaction to "Midnight in Harlem" by the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Have you heard them? Derek Trucks is one of the best blues guitarists alive today. He used to play with the Allman Brothers Band, being the nephew of their late drummer Butch Trucks.

Anyone else think Polyphia are referring to music in the title 'Playing God'? I think that makes the most sense as the guys seem more Meta than Ego, therefore the music they are playing is an expression of God, the beauty of Creation, the mathematical structure of music that represent the mathematical structure inherent in the natural world, the music also gives a sense of Peace and invites reverence like the music played in churches and temples etc. You could go on with that thought if you wanted. Just my 2p's worth!😁🤘🤘

Greetings, Chase! I’m so happy that you finally made it to this beautiful track! You weren’t off with the Mediterranean flourishes...In the intro, you get a bit of Spanish guitar. In the next part, they slide into a bossa nova vibe. The issue that I have with most of the folks who have reacted to this track (some being music teachers of a certain age) is over their exclamations of how different this is & how they’ve never heard anything like it...Pardon? I’m not a musical expert, but I know that all music is influenced by something before it. For example, rock was influenced by the blues. In this case, aside from the hybrid picking, which definitely modernizes it, I hear , what we used to call, jazz fusion. Has NOBODY heard Return to Forever? The Trio?....Al DiMeiola, John McLaughlin & Paco de Lucia?!!? I’m seriously shocked that no one’s made even “slight” comparisons. I was lucky enough to see both bands perform, back in the day. And, I adore the artistry of Polyphia. Even the Dixie Dregs comes to mind. Different sounds, but like Polyphia, every member was a maestro in their own right. Anyway, had to get that off my chest as I find all of these reactions so bizarre...One thing, no biggie, that I expected you to mention, Chase, was the fact that the two boys were using nylon strings on their Ibanez (sp?) guitars. Again, a small observation, but did give it that hybrid of acoustic with electric feel. So Chase, loved your reaction, per usual, although my favorites shall remain your Sleep Token reactions. As I fell in love with them around the same time that you did. I hope to see you do a deep dive into SKYND @ some point. Their subject matter is True Crime, so unless you’re very familiar with whatever case that they’re singing about...This is one of those few cases where it’s imperative that you research the murderer/incident prior as the videos are intrinsically intertwined with the song. Btw, they do not glorify the events, but rather do intensive research to try to understand man’s inhumanity to man, so to speak. Stay safe, Kat, Cosette & Neo 🖤🌹🖤🧛🏻‍♀️

@@ChaseCarneson Why thank you for responding, love. Cosette & Neo are cats. I shall post them to your Twitter feed as any proud parent would do 😁 Regarding SKYND, I wanted to preface that, as they’re a niche genre, there aren’t many reactions to them. Or, many are for the wrong reasons, unfortunately. That being said, I don’t believe that you will get blocked and/or demonetized. I would suggest starting with Jim Jones, as that’s a well known case. The musical style isn’t your cup of tea, I feel, but I believe that the artistry in presentation will override that. Besides, if it impressed Jonathan Davis enough to ask to hop on a track, well...’nuff said 😈 Lastly, I am so happy that you’ve found a soulmate during this whole mess...& that you were kind enough to share that with us. It gives us all hope, kind sir. Stay healthy & happy! I look forward to your upcoming reactions. Oh! And, I know that you’re busy, but have you given further thought to film reactions? As a fellow cinephile, I feel that the discussions would be positively invigorating. Perhaps, start with P.T. Anderson? If I may be so bold? Cheers, Kat, Cosette & Neo 🖤🌹🖤🧛🏻‍♀️

Think of it this way ... Most artists write a song specifically with someone in mind using words to communicate their story. I feel like Polyphia are writing music that transcends barriers. Language, race, and culture are irrelevant to the humanity of the emotional response. This music allows each individual who hears it the freedom to evoke a story that is uniquely personal and yet undeniably universal. THAT IS POWERFUL. Potentially 'godlike'. This is the kind of thing we need to raise the consciousness of all humanity. Just thinking on paper here ... 💖💖💖

I hate diddly diddly guitar playing, this is NOT that. Every bar has an interesting musical phrase and it's easy to listen to which is the sign of true greatness.

Has any of your patreons/viewers proposed looking into Wagakki Band? A fusion of japanese folk (with traditional instruments & shigin singing) and rock/metal/pop/prog etc. Should you entertain the idea, here is a recommendation(s): kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4jPfpZjpcd3mZo kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKnPqKRobMeLlZo The first one is instrumental Kyoukasuigetsu followed by the song Tsukini sakebuyoru (with cc/lyrics). That has, well, all kinds of (metally) feel. Second song is Sabakunokomoriuta (with cc/lyrics). That has, well...a sad and beautiful feel. I'll second that! And throw in the ever popular Senbonzakura, always a good starting point with this band: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpvalmyNrrRrh9U

I actually did them a while back but it was an instant block so have avoided since. Really enjoyed it though

@@ChaseCarneson About that: official music videos licensed to their previous label AVEX get an instablock. Their current label UMG doesn't seem to care, those newest MVs (from the band's own site) have been reacted to without issue, as well as live performances from various channels (like from CC W's above). So I would be curious to know if your strike matched the criteria. Hope you try again. Splendid band.

@@jambomielonen4688 there’s no real formula to it. Sometimes you get lucky, some reactors mess with the audio or visual (which I really am not for). Might give them a look again sometime but there are loads to get through until then so all good.

I really really love your content and I love your views on music. Unfortunately, today is the last day where I can be subscribed. As a trans person, seeing Jordan B. Peterson's work on your shelf saddens me. I wish you the best and "have a damn good day"!
