Can Chase or someone explain why it was pass interference when these are in the NFL rulebook as things that are allowed: a) Incidental contact by an opponent’s hands, arms, or body when both players are competing for the ball, or neither player is looking for the ball. If there is any question whether contact is incidental, the ruling shall be no interference. e) Contact by a player who has gained position on an opponent in an attempt to catch the ball. I don’t think the ball was overthrown or under thrown I just think it was thrown to someone who was clearly in the worst position and the defender should be allowed to slow down if slowing down puts them in the perfect spot for the ball to go through their hands and bounce off their face mask. They shouldn’t be required to just allow the receiver to keep running straight to the ball when they have position on it. The defender is clearly tracking the ball in the air and so is the receiver which is why they bump.
@weilingaby30298 ай бұрын
@@JaaMizzou22 OK, per Wikipedia -- "In American and Canadian football, pass interference (PI) is a foul that occurs when a player interferes with an eligible receiver's ability to make a fair attempt to catch a forward pass. Pass interference may include tripping, pushing, pulling, or cutting in front of the receiver, covering the receiver's face, or pulling on the receiver's hands or arms." I think the key is interfering with a receiver's ability to make a fair attempt .... The Lions db cut in front of BA and clearly in the path of BP so his action prevented BA from a fair attempt to catch. The defenders are allowed to cut in front of receiver or bump the receiver but only within 5 yards from the the line of scrimmage. After 5 yards, it is PI. The db had the right to the ball but not before the receiver having a chance of fair catch. Maybe someone with football knowledge sheds more light on the subject.
@JaaMizzou228 ай бұрын
Okay someone who isn’t just going to read Wikipedia which has less details than the NFL rules. I think they picked it up because another ref saw that he was looking up at the ball the whole way. There are tons of times where there is PI and they catch it and don’t pick the flag up.

The NFL has a serious credibility problem with its officiating. The Lions Vs Rams was really bad and led to some serious injuries. The players figure out right away what isn’t being called and adjust. Lions lost one of their best linebackers on the third play of the game when he was first held as he ran and then pushed from behind into the blocker. The low hit by the Lions safety on the Rams tight end, blowing out his knee.

That play where Brock got smoked but was able to throw to Deebo exposed the weakness of the offensive line. This was on Jake Brendel not picking the defensive tackle who had a clear shot to Brock. John and Kyle need to invest in the offensive linemen either through the draft or free agents. Everyone knows that a lot has been spent on the defensive line. Niners need to make sure to keep Brock upright but also to ensure the freak accident from the NFC wild card game against Philly doesn't happen again. They have a lot of draft picks for the draft and there is no excuse in not getting those missing pieces for defense. This includes cornerback as well.

Chase, you could do a whole episode on Brock and the Niners AFTER big plays, showing the level of professionalism that is all too uncommon nowadays. Every single big play, Brock is just getting up, and walking back to the huddle as he would if it were a 1 yd run up the gut or a sack. Each time as if to say “job’s not done yet.” The whole team was like this. You pointed it out after the BA touchdown. He just heads to the sideline “like he’s been there before.” As a Niner fan, this pumps me up more than any excessive celebration ever will. Only time he celebrated was when he took that last knee. 🤙

thank you for mentioning the PI. Media ignored it and turned a really good "Brock Purdy trusts BA in a 1 on 1 situation and takes a shot" into a "oh, that was lucky, Vildor should have caught the ball". If Mahomes throws this to Kelce and he stubles to make the catch they'd make it the greatest play in football history. But when Purdy does it and BA makes the catch, they call it luck and blame the corner for not catching it. Anyhow, I am quite happy with our "gamemanager" He managed us all the way to the superbowl.

Niners' oline is really weak. Lions rushing 5 was beating the oline on every play. And on the defensive side, the Niners' rushing 4 almost all the time were not giving Goff any pressure at all. I don't know football at all (that's why I like these videos so much because it is educational and entertaining at the same time), but I have been saying that the weakness of the Niners are the oline and their defensive play calling. With the poor oline, should Shannahan call more play-action plays, and would it help? With the stacked defensive line but yet not able to pressure most opposing QB, should they do more 5 man rush like they did in the second half?
@browngamer48 ай бұрын

I appreciate your 5 man rush question. The 4 main pass rushers the 49ers have are really good. Unfortunately, lately most offensive lines have figured out how to neutralize what they do. It appears to me that its only when they blitz the QB with 5 or 6 or 7 pass rushers they become effective as a defense. I always assume pro football coaches are much smarter than me, but if i'm the defensive play caller for the 49ers come super bowl sunday im blitzing way more than they expect.

Dirty football is football. 🏈 Nock his ass silly and we’ve got a chance. Just sayin I’m not talking Tom Brady good. I’m talking a freak athlete. No Jackson Larry Bird. Roberto Clemente, Wayne Fretcky good. Pat knows Joes Knock him out.

KJ is probably the best FB in nfl history. Theres no chance 49ers are as successful without him. Him and Trent Williams are the X factors of this offense. If they both play full game expect a 90%-95% win rate. They are incredibly important in this offense. My mvp for the season is Christian McCaffrey though. 49ers actually match up extremely well VS Chiefs, so hopefully Kyle Shannahan doesn't act like he's a 1st yr OC and call 14 passes to start the game. Incredible comeback.

Orlovsky comped Purdy to Burrow. Burrow is 1-1 v Mahomes in playoffs so Purdy has 50/50 chance to beat Mahomes.😂

Everyone seems to think the 49ers have this in the bag, they don't, they are the real underdogs in the SB in my opinion, we shall see.

Much respect for using "Flanker." Jerry Rice was the Flanker, John Taylor was the "Split End," opposite side of the Tight End (Brent Jones or Russ Francis.)

@15.22 Aiyuk 100% should’ve caught that, and that was a massive drop. That’s the difference in going into half down 7-11 rather than 17-22. Luckily Aiyuk made up for it later.

Shanahan got outcoached all playoffs. Purdy bailed Shanahan out with his improvisation and legs.

It wasn't so much about what we did, in one way...We just got lucky... this time... coming from behind. It was a couple of fortuitous miss ups from the Lions ( and we take that any time), which changed the physiognomy of the game. if it weren't for those and the Lions somehow "loosing" the grip of the game, the outcome of the game would have been different. We cannot keep rescuing the game this way. Next time (KC is a different entity) we will get beaten, if we don't impose the/our advantage from the beginning.

Spoken like a QB. That wasn't PI. Not only was it not PI because it wasn't, but it wasn't PI because the officials picked it up and said "there was no foul on the play". Should have been picked and the end of the football game.

I hope he would give his best focus on winning this Superbowl. Like what he did in second half. And defense push your best, don’t just watch, chase them and stop them. Go after the quarterback.

Despite a great overall performance on Purdy’s part … that interception was a total bone head play … forcing the ball into the crowd while being pressure … you’re only down by 7 .. why took such a huge risk … the easy check down was right next to him to CMC … essentially that was a pick 6 .. and you’d have lost the game 90% of the time right there

That throw to Deebo Samuel (around 16:40 in this video. Again at 21:30) is exceptional. I see Purdy do that half a dozen times a game. He really has next level ability like Jordan Love.

At 27:24 does #32 stomp Purdy’s leg? That timing doesn’t look like incidental contact. Dirty move if so.

Give him 2 seconds and give him 2 routes. Give him three and watch. Thats brock purdy

That offensive line got destroyed in the first 2 quarters, that's why Purdy didn't look great. He had Lions in his face on every dropback. At least it seemed that way! 🤯

Funny how Chase says that they worked all summer to get the timing on the out route. Brock was rehabing most of the summer. I don't think threw much until the last 2 or 3 weeks of training camp.

a couple thoughts on the throw to Jennings you cover around the 18 minute mark. 1) I'm not sure it was meant for Jennings. If you look, if Jennings didn't high point it, Aiyuk was perfectly paced to get it. 2) No one EVER criticizes Mahomes for the number of similar passes he makes to Kelce, becuase more often than not, they work out.

"He came back from 17 down", by trying to throw a pick and Aiyuk made an insane catch. And then the D got a turnover in the red zone. But yeah, HE did it. This is the most annoying thing in team sports.

I sure hope the Niners figure out how to block #95Chris Jones, or it could be a long night for Purdy & Co. I certainly hope I'm wrong, but dude is a game wrecker.

Thank God that Aiyuk caught the deep ball off the recache because although it was a PI, the refs picked up the flag. I wonder if they would have picked up the flag had Aiyuk not caught it?
