In 2006 the Colts, under Peyton Manning, won the Super Bowl. Manning had Addai (Pro-Bowl), Harrison (HOF, 8x Pro Bowl, 3x All-Pro), Wayne (6x Pro Bowl + All Pro) & Clarke (Pro Bowl, All-Pro) at the skill positions and two Pro-Bowl linemen (Glenn (3x) & Saturday (6x + 3 All-Pro)). Clearly, under the 'you have great players' argument used against Purdy, Peyton Manning was a Game Manager. That's how stupid the arguments against Purdy are.
@griefman65509 ай бұрын
Purdy is a game manager. so was Brady, so was Manning. The thing that people spewing this rhetoric don't tell you is that 99% of QBs can't manage a game. They can connect with one star receiver or they can wildcat it up and play backyard ball, but game management is how you win very consistently.

That missed deep out route was on Ayuik. The ball was in a perfect place, Ayuik just didnt locate it until it was too late. Had he anticipated Brock's anticipation (which at this point he should) he would have looked up the moment he turned his head, found the ball and easily gotten under it in stride. Brock's only real mistake was throwing the mid crosser to Deebo that about got picked. Had Kittle caught the ball he dropped and Ayuik located the ball correctly, Purdy would have had an even more enormous day. He's definitely got stuff to improve, but he's already a star that you have deeply watch slow motion all 22 to critique.
@greyklopstock71559 ай бұрын
And if we're being honest, when you have a good young QB, it's kinda a good thing to still have stuff to improve on. Cause it can get dangerous when you have a young guy playing well but kinda realize "the rest of the league is getting better and our guy just hit his ceiling." We've seen this kind of movie before. It's called Kurt Warner, Drew Brees, and Russell Wilson. All smaller QBs who were drafted outside the first round who were good early and went on to be great.

I love watching Purdy play because it takes me back to the 2000s when I was a kid and was watching guys like Manning, Brees and Brady dissect defense with great footwork, pocket presence, accuracy and Processing. This whole "New age" QBs of uber athletes that don't go through progressions is boring for me. Watching a master of QB fundamentals like Purdy in this current era is a breath of fresh air. He is actually a decent athlete but he rarely needs to show that off coz his fundamentals are crazy good. Hopefully he wins MVP and the SB this year to remind the NFL world that the QB is still ultimately a mind- first body second position. Also noticed SF don't really throw the ball short much..maybe coz CMC will gain 5 YPC so they pass only for explosive plays Love the videos.

I saw an interesting chart that essentially showed Purdy as the best QB in the league at reading defenses - based on Wk1-Wk10 data. It was a table that listed the 2023 QB's and across the top were columns noting different defensive coverages (Cover 0, Cover 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and Cover 2 Man). Each coverage for the individual QB was color-coded: red for that QB performing in negative EPA/P, and blue for that QB performing in positive EPA/P. Brock Purdy was the ONLY QB in the table that was blue all across the chart - blue for all 7 defensive coverages. This kid had excellent college experience and has some kinda talent for reading even confusing defenses like in this Cardinals game. And he does it making it look easy. And with the top play calling with top players, it's the perfect fertile ground for exactly his background and talents to blend it all together so the team takes it to the next level.

Just imagine if Purdy played behind an elite pass protecting O-line and not the 22nd ranked. When you look at the fact that Purdy is 2nd in NFL in passing yards but 32nd in attempts. Then add in the 22nd rank in pass protection on top of still having the #1 passer rating, #1 yards per attempt in the NFL is absolutely incredible and unheard of. This is where I start thinking the word elite! I have not even mentioned that he is currently #1 in passing TDs. If 49ers can beat the Ravens Monday Brock Purdy will 100% win the MVP award. I want to see 49ers win these next 2 games. Then when it comes time to play the Rams 49ers will have already clinched the #1 seed. Kyle could sit out some key players and and give them a extra week off ontop of having the buy week off. This could help give us our best version going into the playoffs. If Rams are going in the playoffs nomatter if we beat them or not in week 18. Then maybe it would be smart to play that game safe.

Hi Chase, I love your video analysis. One interesting point the players already said is "If the play is designed for such player get the ball, Purdy will try delivering the ball to him". A good example is the play you analyzed at minute 9 of the video, the throw to Aiyuk. If you look carefully, Deebo releases quickly in a deep route, but Deebo does not look to Purdy waiting for the ball, he looks to Aiuk because he knows the ball goes to Aiyuk. It is amazing how Purdy delivered the ball to the player the play was designed. However, as a 49ers fan, this also concerns me, I still feel he needs to work on that, throwing with anticipation is great to deliver the ball but the adaptation during the play is crucial to becoming an Elite QB. Thank you for the amazing videos.
@kilgoretrout44619 ай бұрын
Well, there’s about a dozen perfect examples of him adapting to the play in front of him. He does an incredible job of going through his reads, and if it’s not there, he goes where it’s open. He does it constantly. By no means does he force it to the 1st read on every play, but he does trust his receivers to make plays, which he should because they will make those plays the majority of the time. I think they said that about him getting it to the guy because yes, you do want to try to get it to the guy you expect the play to work for , but he adapts so frequently you can’t actually believe that he isn’t adapting constantly. 😊

I’m just amazed at how fast Purdy gets through his reads. That seems to be the biggest hang up for most young QB’s, and tends to be what makes or breaks a lot of them too. Purdy is ripping through his reads so god damn quickly, that it’s absolutely clear that his head, his body, his vision have cultivated the ability to sloooooowwww doooooowwwn the whole play. He is doing it unconscious, where simultaneously a millisecond passes but in his head it’s all slow motion, he can reason and make judgements while everyone else is stuck in quicksand while his mind is firing on all cylinders. They basically said we think Purdy is shitty so we are only gonna bring 2-3 guys and take your weapons away. He basically challenge accepted and I am still gonna throw the rock

At about the 20:00 of your video, the missed pass to Ayuk. The roof was open. Do you think Ayuk could have lost it in the air? Or do you think there should have been more arc on the pass instead of being flatter like it was thrown?

Ummm, when the line does well give them credit....but this line is ranked something like 25th in pressures given up. Purdy is doing this despite the line.

On the first CMC TD the RT steps on Purdy’s foot while he’s throwing.

Samuel didn't really adjust that route. When Deebo came out of his break the ball was in the air. He just ran to where Purdy threw it.

Every QB that puts up big numbers has a GREAT team behind him. Look at Mahommies numbers since Hill is in Miami. Not so great are they?

Well obviously the Niners look at film to pick out weaknesses in the Cards defense. They seem to use that 5-1-5 lineup a lot whether it be man to man or zone.
