This is the guy who never puts lol at the end of random texts and leaves you wondering if he's joking or not. He's waaaaaay ahead of this time, and I hope people can respect this type of humor in the future.

You nailed it. I've interviewed him three times. He knows what he's doing and knows how people will respond. He's very similar to the late, great Andy Kaufman. Except Harmony doesn't want to push the audience their limits, he just wants them to keep guessing -- "Is this really happening? This story he's telling, is he serious? He can't be serious. He's not laughing, though."

@n\a Except that you are framing it through the lens of conservatism/personal responsibility, which is problematic because drugs are a society-wide problem. Your framing of it, and the types of polices that stem from that type of framing, never solve the issues of drugs (without massive authoritarian use of power by states), because they require each and every individual to make that choice for themselves. Also, it's dichotomous thinking to view it in terms of merely force or no force. The either you are forced or you aren't paradigm is completely unnuanced and can lead people to reflexive condemnation.

I'm really not impressed with the people saying they love him a lot because he's crazy and weird. I am completely serious when I say that he makes more sense when he talks than almost anybody else I've ever heard. the problem with consumers of art is that they only understand something if it's been explained to them. Abstract paintings are exactly what Harmony's films are. People can agree with abstract paintings or even impressionism because they've been taught how to appreciate art in that form. give them the same thing in Harmony Korine, and they laugh. of course I know he's messing around, but that doesn't mean his ideas are not valuable.

He's just making a boring interview a little more fun. People are so straight laced and normal its just effortless for Harmony to troll the shit out of them.
@chasewhale5 жыл бұрын
Lukewarmians you nailed it. I’m the “boring” interview and friends with Harmony. We’ve done interviews for all has movies starting with Mister Lonely. He’s not bored, he just likes to tell the stories he wants to tell. He has to do press for his movies - required - but he wants to give the journalist something fun for their article. I should have stayed quiet when he was explaining this fascinating poem he would do with his daughter, but when the journalist is in the moment, we talk to. It’s why you hear me say “yeah,” “cool.” He’s not bored, he just wants to show his world which is not answering the same questions.
@lukewarmians42735 жыл бұрын
@@chasewhale It wasn't my intention to say you were boring! I apologize. Not saying you were a bad interviewer. Kajsa Djärf i'm pretty sure i get it, so i'll take a crack at re:'ing. the dot-line pictograph is just a pictograph;just a little stream of consciousness doodle. there's no road map for that. then there's the word association bit, starting the free word association at whichever point (there's a lot of that: action without "too much" preorganization... the point is to create pulling from the most initial associations. (i.e. when you think "war" the first thing that comes to mind is the mushroom cloud, therefor "mushroom" became the next written word)... etc etc etc) when you get down to the bones of understanding a process such as this one, it turns out to be really fucking simple, but you've never seen someone focus on this before, so it's new. this is a game that he plays with his daughter. he's super good at stripping away all the static that gets in %99 of the population's way between the stockpile of what the brain has before it forms a thought and what manifests in display to another after the thought has formed. if he were into it, i wish there was a way to help him produce more. lots of things are good, and less things are really super important. i feel like korine has produced important things.
