And she neverrr referred to any well known actors/artists like Tim Burton or Elizabeth Taylor or Janet Jackson. And she neverrr did any collaborations with people/groups like Jack Antonoff or Ed Sheeran or Future or Bon Iver or Toddrick Hall or Ryan Reynolds that benefited her by helping her both build connections/relationships and giving her exposure and sales by sparking more interest from a group adjacent or outside her typical demographic. Olivia Rodrigo credited Taylor's samples. Olivia is allowed to draw inspiration from Taylor Swift. She's allowed to create art with similar vibes because no one owns a vibe. We are people and a big part of the art, which tends to already reference other art, is so people can connect with it, enjoy it, and/or be inspired by it. You've can't say Olivia isn't a Swiftie because you deem her referencing Taylor as *cashing in* on Taylor. You don't actually know her motivations when she references what she does when she makes her work. I love Taylor Swift's work very much, and it's perfectly fine for her to make references to other art/artists and pop culture throughout time. It's fine for Olivia to do that too. So I hope if you truly think this song is representative of Olivia Rodrigo cashing in on Taylor's name and that that is somehow an offense to her, I hope you are just as harsh in your judgement of Taylor Swift. Maybe also consider not hating on Olivia, a young adult trying to be successful in the music industry? Especially if you have any empathy for people doing the exact same to Taylor. And maybe also don't pit them against each other? Because I'm pretty sure Taylor herself has specifically spoke out about the issue with pitting women against women and spreading hatefulness in that way. Not cool.

@@SupposingSarah yeah I don’t get the “Olivia used Taylor for ‘clout’!!” guys. No way she could just be a genuine fan of our generation’s pinnacle for young woman singer songwriter… /s. I mean it’s pretty stupid when Olivia’s given plenty of interviews mentioning TS going back years, plus the musical references she makes re:Taylor aren’t just surface level or the most obvious options… but she still gets to be her own person & artist DUH. I think it’s very likely that her no longer bringing up lots of TS inspiration was actually advice straight from Taylor/her team. She knows what criticisms were thrown at her as a songwriter, woman pursuing romantic or business relationships, and highly “exposed” celebrity at a very young age. Taylor probably prefers Olivia to leave a bit of distance between them… lets their individual talents shine more clearly, protects Olivia from comparisons/expectations reaching a fever pitch, and it’s not like Taylor needs the extra exposure ppl!! I just don’t get what the problem could be (cough - misogyny) like she was very honest about drawing inspiration.. so much that retroactive writing creds kept coming, not just to Taylor. But if Olivia did keep bringing her up, was getting dangerously close to becoming the entire public image for her personality/art. So yeah she’s not going to endlessly repeat herself (nor should she have to) but I VERY much doubt that Taylor, Olivia, or their teams are losing sleep with hurt feelings over all this….

@@izal3054 No she probably is still a fan of Taylor but a lot of toxic Taylor fans said she was using Taylor to promote her songs when she was just expressing her love for her so I think she just stopped talking about her because of all the hate she got. These toxic fans also hated Olivia because a lot of people were saying that Olivia would become the new Taylor and they were not happy about that. People were downplaying Olivia’s talent by saying she’s using Taylor so I personally believe she made a good decision by not talking about Taylor anymore. People will always find a way to hate on her no matter what decision she makes. If she would still be talking about Taylor, she would get a lot of hate from people saying that her whole personality is based on Taylor. She probably also just wants to be known as Olivia and not keep being compared to Taylor. I don’t understand why the internet just loves to pit successful young women against each other.

Just in case you didn’t catch on, between watching Sabrinas videos, and now Olivia’s, Sabrina is the blonde girl that she was referring to, and in Sabrinas music video for Skin, Sabrina sings “maybe blonde was the only rhyme”… lol the song she wrote regarding Olivia’s resentment toward her. It was a crazy love triangle that really all breaks down to a misunderstanding…Olivia’s songs, déjà vu and drivers license, and Sabrina songs because I liked a boy and skin are the songs directly talking about the situation. Drivers license is the song that started it all and unfortunately Olivia did not stop her fans when they started sending Sabrina and Joshua death threats. And by that point, Sabrina and Joshua already broken up. It was unfortunate situation.

It was an unfortunate situation but it’s also weird to say “Olivia did not stop her fans from sending death threats”… At least lyrically across SOUR, it’s pretty clear that there’s no blame/hate towards Sabrina from Olivia. And have never seen Olivia doing press that speaks to the contrary… So maybe helpful to see some examples where huge artists or other celebrities at a sudden peak were capable of successfully stopping any extremist “fans” & controlled all violent language supposedly in their “defense” - including those just looking for an excuse to threaten someone - any bandwagoners, people in true crisis, or simply disturbed kids. I really doubt that’s actually within the power of any one human so not sure how it’s fair to expect from a teenager, with her debut album & limited life experience to handle such an intense attention. Making threats is NOT an okay reaction, but that doesn’t make Olivia responsible… we’re each in charge of how we react to others actions, words, or music, etc.

At that point it becomes your responsibility to say something when it’s YOUR song that is causing such an outbreak. Olivia was immature at the time she was only what 18? But if I was someone of her status, and I saw people literally sending death threats to two people that were directly affected by my song, I would say some thing. I would say please stop, I do not approve of this hate…Stop sending death threats, etc. That’s the least she could’ve done honestly. If anything, it made her look like a bitch by not saying anything while her fans verbally attacked 2 people. Ultimately the responsibility lies on the artist and the fans to speak up for what’s right.

I listened to this a lot when I broke up with my ex fiancé, our story wasn’t like this but the element of emotion was spot on. We were buying a house and then just both realised we couldn’t really picture us being together forever so we split.. then my Gran died, he went to the funeral with me and then we spent st Patrick’s together as we are in the same friend group then lockdown happened and we couldn’t really see each other at all, I then found out I was pregnant 😬 and since I couldn’t see him and didn’t want to tell him over the phone I was in it alone, it had happened before we broke up but I only discovered it afterwards. I also didn’t want to confuse the situation after breaking up and deciding not to have a life together to then probably being in each other’s lives forever. I didn’t want to get back together for the baby and put that pressure on them. I ended up losing the baby and it was just another thing I lost of us, of ours and that line about driving through the suburbs picturing driving home to him was so emotive to me because I drove past the house we almost bought together all the time and always wondered what my life could have been if I was driving home to that house, to the life we might have had. He actually did drive to my house when he got his license, he used his half of our house money for his lessons and car since he didn’t have me to drive him anymore.

There aren't many videos for that era, but I would STRONGLY recommend you listen to the album "Melodrama" by Lorde and do a full reaction if possible - I consider it the godparent album to Olivia's album. Edited to add - I'm happily married, but I was six months pregnant with my daughter when this song came out and it made me *VERY* emotional - I know Olivia doesn't say it in the lyrics, but I can so easily imagine a version of the lyrics where our girl is pregnant and the boy has abandoned her.
